2019 was a momentous year and with it came a multitude of stories from the College of Education. From awards and grants to recognizing outstanding students and faculty, we’ve been able to see the place we love reach new heights of success in education and beyond. 10. College of Education professor appointed to UF Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars
Elizabeth “Buffy” Bondy, professor in the School of Teaching and Learning, was appointed to serve on the esteemed University of Florida Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars — an advisory group dedicated to enhancing the policies that maintain the university’s high-quality of academic excellence.
9. Students honored at 2019 Recognition Dinner
The College of Education hosted its 17th annual Recognition Dinner, honoring those who have contributed to the success of this past year.
8. CASE recognizes Anita Zucker with James L. Fisher Award for Distinguished Service to Education
Global businesswoman, philanthropist and College of Education alumna (B.A.E. ’72) Anita Zucker was honored with the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) James L. Fisher Award for Distinguished Service to Education.
7. Irving and Rose Fien Endowed Professor works to rebuild Florida as a national leader in bilingual education
Maria Coady, Irving and Rose Fien Endowed Professor of Education and associate professor of ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) and bilingual education, established the first statewide repository for bilingual education in the country and revitalized the Florida Association for Bilingual Education (FABE).
6. UF professor receives $956,733 to pilot cryptography-focused elementary-level curriculum
Pavlo “Pasha” Antonenko, associate professor of Educational Technology, and a team of researchers were awarded $956,733 from the National Science Foundation to design, test and pilot an online, mobile-friendly cryptography-focused curriculum.
5. Nancy Dana named finalist for Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching
Nancy Fichtman Dana, professor in the School of Teaching and Learning, is one of the three finalists for the 2020 Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching.
4. New Faculty: Fall 2019
This Fall, along with returning to our historic Norman Hall, we warmly welcomed 15 new faculty to our EduGator community.
3. Patricia Snyder named UF Distinguished Professor
Patricia Snyder, David Lawrence, Jr. Endowed Chair
prof with the rare honor of Distinguished Professor. Snyder is only the seventh College of Education professor to ever receive this distinction.

2. UF College of Education reclaims ranking as best in nation
The College of Education reclaimed its place as the nation’s best online graduate education degree program, according to the most recent annual rankings released by U.S. News and World Report magazine.
1. UF College of Education ranks among the nation’s best graduate education schools
The College of Education continues to earn recognition as the best graduate education college in the state and stands as No. 15 among the nation’s top public colleges of education, according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings of America’s Best Graduate Education Schools. Two academic programs were recognized in the top-10, Counselor Education (No. 3) and Special Education (No. 7), and two programs gained positions in the top-20, Elementary Education (No. 16) and Curriculum & Instruction (No. 18).
