UF Core Values Celebration!
EduGators, we want to thank you for doing your part to make the College of Education one of the best in the nation. Now, we want to celebrate! On February 9th we would like to emphasize the Core Values that make UF a Top 5 Public University. If you aren’t familiar with the Core Values, check out the website with more information.
We need your help! EduGator Central-Student Services is collecting submissions for our UF Core Values Celebration. We are asking College of Education students (individuals or groups) to submit a piece of work to be evaluated by our selection committee for a cash award! You can submit an essay, poetry, photography, fine art, video, or any other form of personal representation that you feel exemplifies the UF Core Values. The only requirement is that you are a College of Education major or minor student. Submissions can be sent to SSFrontDesk@coe.ufl.edu. We’ll collect submissions January 27th through February 6th. The winners will be announced on February 9th! We’ll be handing out three $100 awards to the top submissions.

The Florida Elks Youth Camp
Description: The Florida Elks Youth Camp is hiring staff, camp counselors, and a manager! We are an 8-week non-profit residential camp in Umatilla. We do a week of staff training, and 7 one-week sessions of camp. We see about 336 campers every week between the ages of 9-13. Almost all of our campers come from the state of Florida, which makes us different than many camps out there.
Pay Rate: Counselors who receive $2,400 for the 8-weeks. Any staff who works for us become eligible to apply for the Van Duren Scholarship. This scholarship is up to $5,000 a year for 4-years. Every year is a new year, so a student has the opportunity to get more money every year based on their academic and personal performance.
When: This season we run June 5th to July 30th.

The Poconos Springs Camp
Description: The Pocono Springs Staff is dedicated to working with children and creating an atmosphere of family, spirit, and excitement. If you have a desire to impact the lives of children by helping them be their best selves and to also grow as an individual yourself, Pocono Springs is the right place for you. We are a 5-week, coed, residential camp in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Staff are typically at camp from June 12th to July 29th with opportunities to stay for pre and post season. Your summer job at camp can be used as an INTERNSHIP!
Pay Rate: Salary starts at 2150 and includes all room & board, meals, staff t-shirts, and laundry services!

Student Government Senator
Description: UF Student Government parties will be holding interviews to select this semester’s Student Government Senate Candidates from January 28th, 30th, 31st, and February 1st. The Department of Education holds 1 seat in UF Senate and could use motivated and passionate students to run.
Being a senator involves controlling a $22 million dollar budget, which can be used to improve the university and even specific departments at UF. As a senator, you will not only gain invaluable leadership skills, but also effectively make a difference on your campus by the time you graduate. Whether you wish to work on traffic safety, environmental policies, mental health, project funding, or even improving UF libraries, this is a fantastic opportunity. The skills and connections you can make as a senator will undoubtedly be used for future career opportunities.

Gator Major 4 Major Mentorship Program
Description: Need a mentor in your major? Or would like to become a mentor? The Gator Major 4 Major Mentorship Program is a student-run organization for mentors to provide an easier transition to incoming students. Participating freshman and transfer students will be paired with a Junior or Senior in the same college/department studying the same major.

GNV4All Chapter
Description: Hello everyone, my name is Anthony Avila and I am the current GNV4All Vice President. I would like to share some information with you about the organization. The GNV4All chapter is a branch of the local non-profit, GNV4All, and we are focused on bridging the gap between the university and the city of Gainesville. Specifically, bringing light to the disparities and inequities members of the community are experiencing. Home-School Coach
Description: Home-school coach wanted for a bright, mature, 14 year old girl with mild Asperger’s/Autism who is enrolled in Florida Virtual School program. Our daughter has no behavior or learning problems, and is capable of doing regular 8th grade work, but has problems with motivation and time management. Also she sometimes gets debilitating headaches; on those days she can’t do any school work.
So we are seeking a mature, female coach, ideally someone seeking experience in working with ASD children, who can come to our house (Haile Plantation area) about 3 hours each/most schooldays and work with her to get her schoolwork done and also get her motivated to take up or resume simple extracurricular activities.
Hours: Work hours are somewhat flexible; also we will work around your schedule and special circumstances like exam week.
Pay Rate: Remuneration is negotiable but in the range of $20/hr based on qualifications.
