Graduate Student Awards
The College of Education is pleased to announce the winners of our 2022-23 Graduate Student Awards! The following students were selected by a faculty committee as distinguishing themselves in the following areas:
Outstanding Graduate Student in Leadership:
Hannah Fox, a student in the Educational Specialist in School Counseling and Guidance, is the recipient of the 2022-2023 award for Outstanding Graduate Student in Leadership. The faculty selection committee was particularly impressed by her leadership of a team of four supervisors utilizing the Practice Based Coaching framework for the BAE in Early Childhood Education program, and her success in bringing all new supervisors to meet departmental goals for model fidelity.
Outstanding Graduate Student in Professional Practice:
The winner of our 2022-23 Outstanding Graduate Student in professional Practice Award goes to Michael Scofield, a doctoral student in Curriculum and Instruction. Michael’s service to the profession includes playing a pivotal role in revising and strengthening core courses in the College’s undergraduate teacher education program. In addition to recognition as an excellent course instructor, Michael also helped secure grant funding in support of the Akwaaba Freedom School.
Outstanding Graduate Student in Research:
Brian Abramowitz, a doctoral student in Curriculum and Instruction, is the winner of the 2022-23 Outstanding Graduate Student in Research award. During his time at UF, Brian has served as President of SAGE, working to further other graduate students’ opportunities to engage in and disseminate their own research. In his own work, he has demonstrated excellence through his socially responsible and community-oriented AI in education research agenda along with exceptional outreach to Florida’s K-12 schools.

Millhopper Montessori School
Description: Millhopper Montessori School (MMS) is accredited by the Florida Council of Independent Schools and affiliated with the American Montessori Society. The school was founded in 1977 by Christina Miller, who is the Owner/Head of the School. MMS enjoys a spacious facility for its extensive, developmentally appropriate private educational program, serving children ages two through eighth grade. True to its Montessori heritage, the staff fosters creative thinking and problem-solving through the use of manipulatives and other educational tools. The Jalyn Imani Stallworth Internship
Description: The Harn Museum would like to share the following paid internship opportunity for students who are interested in exploring career opportunities in the museum field in the Education or Curatorial Department. The Jalyn Imani Stallworth Internship was established by the family of Jalyn Imani Stallworth to honor her memory and support aspiring curators and museum educators with a focus on diversifying the profession.
Jalyn Imani Stallworth was a 2018 graduate of the University of Florida. She graduated with honors, majoring in African American History with minors in Art History and Anthropology.

Services and Volunteer Opportunities
Children Beyond Our Borders
Description: Children Beyond Our Borders is a nonprofit organization that runs a variety of programs for our mission to eliminate barriers to education for children locally and in Latin America. The mentorship program, the Triunfadores College Prep Program (CPP), aims to provide educational resources for low-income, migrant, and otherwise disadvantaged K-12 students in Alachua County through weekly, one-on-one tutoring sessions with college students and volunteers.

Youth Mental Health First Aid x Project REACH
Description: If you have frequent contact with youth and adolescents, or know someone who does, here is a wonderful training opportunity for you! At Project REACH we work in collaboration with youth mental health first aid to provide FREE training on how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health challenges amongst youth. All participants who complete training will receive a $25 gift card after completion!

CityLight Church Children’s Ministry - Childcare Workers and Teachers
Description: Childcare and teaching opportunities for CityLight Church’s children’s ministry, ages from 3 months through 5th grade. Join an awesome team working with kids in a safe, fun and energetic environment.
Hours: 4-7 hours/week

Description: STEPs for Success is looking for tutors for elementary, middle, and high school students. Tutoring/Teaching experience required.

Schedule: Flexible, afternoon/evenings 3-4 days a week Monday through Friday are highly preferred
