The College of Education Scholarship application for 2025-2026 scholarships is now open to current students who will be continuing their same program for the Fall 2025 semester.

General Information

The College of Education awards scholarships to graduate, undergraduate students and prospective students through an annual scholarship selection process. Eligibility for individual awards is determined by the College of Education based on a student’s classification for the following Fall semester. All information submitted will be verified and only completed applications will be considered.

Application Instructions

One scholarship application will qualify students to be considered for all College of Education Scholarships for which they are eligible. Students must access Scholarship Universe using their GatorLink credentials to begin. Please refer to the application instructions.

    Notification of Selection

    Notifications of College of Education Scholarship decisions will be sent by the beginning of the next academic year. Students who are selected to receive a College of Education Scholarship will be invited to attend a Recognition Banquet as a guest of the Dean.

    All College of Education Scholarship funds are available and distributed in the Fall semester, unless noted otherwise.

    Undergraduate Scholarship

    Shirley M. Cowans Scholarship

    Available to: Undergraduate students in the College of Education. Preference given to students from Oak Ridge, Evans, Jones or Pensacola High Schools.

    Amount to be Awarded: 1 @ $1,000

    Education Station & Preschool Annual Scholarship

    Available to: undergraduate students studying early childhood education at the UF College of Education. Preference will be given to students from Alachua County who demonstrate financial need.

    Amount to be Awarded: 1 @ $2,000

    Lancaster Scholarship

    Available to: Undergraduates admitted to a professional teacher education program in the College of Education.

    Requires: Full-time enrollment in the College of Education at the University of Florida.

    Amount to be Awarded: 1 @ $1,250

    J. W. Martin and A. M. Martin Phillips Scholarship Fund

    Must demonstrate financial need to qualify for this scholarship.

    Available to: Full-time undergraduate students pursuing a degree in education at the University of Florida. Preference given to students who attended high school in Alachua county (must submit copy of diploma or official high school transcripts).

    Amount to be Awarded: 9 @ $3,000

    Graduates Scholarship

    Barbara and Richard Anderson Scholarship

    Available to: Graduate students entering the College of Education. First preference given to graduates of or employees of Florida Gateway College (formerly Lake City Community College). Second preference given to students from Baker, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist or Union counties. Third preference given to residents of Florida entering the College of Education.

    Amount to be awarded: 1 @ $1,000

    Kent Batchelder School Counselor Scholarship

    Available to: Graduate Students in School Counseling who demonstrate financial need. Preference given to students from Vermont (first), Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Tarpon Springs, Florida. Preference also given to students who plan to intern/work as middle school counselors.

    Amount to be Awarded: 1 @ $1,000 + $1,300 for travel

    Mildred M. and Robert S. Baynard Fund

    Available to: students pursuing an advanced degree in literacy and reading at the College of Education.

    Amount to be Awarded: 5 @ $4,750

    Dr. Frank C. and Juliette D. Bolser Memorial Fellowship

    Available to: Students who have a degree in mathematics and are pursuing a graduate degree in mathematics education with the intent to teach mathematics in the public school system.

    Available to: Graduate Students in the College of Education.

    The Clark Scholarship, in honor of Laura M. Clark

    Available to: Graduate students in teacher education programs in the College of Education. Graduates of the public high schools of Plant City, Mt. Dora and Clermont are to be given scholarship preference.

    Available to: Graduate students in the ProTeach program focusing on elementary education in the UF College of Education. Preference given to first generation college students.

      Available to: Graduate students who are conducting work to advance research knowledge and/or professional practice related to the role of freedom of speech, academic freedom, or student rights in academe. Preference given to students in the Higher Education, Student Affairs, and Counselor Education programs.

        Lincoln and Lillian Hall in Memory of Albert G. Hall Fellowship Fund

        Available to: Early childhood and elementary education graduate students.

        Requires: Admission to or full-time enrollment in the Early Childhood or Elementary Education ProTeach programs in the College of Education.

          Dr. Clemens Lester Hallman Fellowship

          Available to: Graduate students in the College of Education preparing for teaching or teacher education in one of the following three areas: 1) Bilingual education, 2) Foreign Language education, or 3) ESOL education.

            Vernice Law Hearn Scholarship

            Available to: Full-time ProTeach graduate students in Early Childhood, Elementary, or Special Education.

            Requires: Admission to or full-time enrollment in a professional teacher education program in the College of Education at the University of Florida.

              Dr. Charles A. Henderson Fellowship

              Available to: Practicing teachers in Florida pursuing advanced degrees in the College of Education. Additional travel award to attend Florida Association of Staff Development (FASD) Conference or similar meeting. Recipient required to write an essay.

              Must demonstrate financial need to qualify for this scholarship.

              Available to: Full-time graduate students preparing to teach mathematics at the middle or secondary level.

              Must demonstrate financial need to qualify for this scholarship.

              Available to: 5th year graduate students in the ProTeach program. Preference will be given to students who graduated from a high school in the following counties: Bradford, Duval, Clay, St. Johns.

              The Lauren C. Sampson Endowed Scholarship in School Psychology

              Available to: Graduate Students enrolled in the Educational Specialist degree program in School Psychology who plan a career as a School Psychologist in P-12 education. Preference given to students with financial need.

              The Carol Sofarelli Schraml Endowed Scholarship

              Available to: Students with a minimum 3.25 GPA who are seeking a degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education. Preference shall be given to students originating from Pinellas or Hillsborough County, or from the state of Florida. Preference will also be given to those who demonstrate significant community service or, alternatively, employment.

              Available to: Counselor Education doctoral students who are future counselors in higher education.

              Available to: Masters students in Elementary Education. Recipient must be a Florida resident, graduate of a Florida high school, and enrolled in a full-time Masters program in Elementary Education. One-time only award.

              Dr. Hannelore Wass Endowed Scholarship

              Available to: Graduate students in the College of Education. Scholarship awarded for the following:

              • Graduate students doing research in sex and gender role socialization in school settings and its effects on students’ career aspirations and choices.
              • Graduate work on developing rationale and practical guidelines for incorporating the study of the human life cycle, including aging and death, into the relevant study areas (e.g., life science, psychology and social studies).

              Dr. James L. Wattenbarger Fellowship

              Available to: Doctoral students.

              Requires:

              • Pursuit of Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Higher Education,
              • Submission of a proposal of 600 words which may be all or part of a dissertation on a subject which will:

                • Provide a basis for continued improvement of community colleges.

              2025 College of Education Study Abroad Scholarship

              The College of Education awards study abroad scholarships to graduate and undergraduate students through an annual scholarship selection process. There will be six (6) study abroad awards available @ $1,000 each. Eligibility for study abroad awards require that students be enrolled in the College of Education. All information submitted will be verified and only complete applications will be considered.

              To apply, please complete the attached Study Abroad Scholarship Application along with a 500-750 word essay as described on the application. Complete applications are due via email to scholarships@coe.ufl.edu by 4:00pm, Monday, January 27, 2025.
