Prospective Counselor Ed Students

On-Campus Ph.D.

Doctorate Program

Designed for those seeking advanced roles in academia or advanced clinical and administrative positions, our doctoral program builds on a foundation of clinical experience and a master’s degree in counseling or a related field. This comprehensive program includes coursework, a doctoral clinical practicum, and a counselor education internship focused on research, writing, teaching, and supervision. Students also conduct research and complete a dissertation.

Entry: Every Fall
Requirements: Master’s degree in a relevant field
Typical Course Load: 9 credits per semester
Full-Time/Part-Time: Full-time
Application Deadline: November 15 (domestic students)
Program Completion: 3 years

On-Campus M.Ed./ Ed.S.

Master’s Program

Our entry-level program requires a minimum of 72 credit hours, culminating in the Master of Education (M.Ed.) and Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degrees. For those aiming to deepen their research expertise, choosing to complete a master’s thesis will lead to a Master of Arts in Education (M.A.E.) degree. This robust program prepares you to enter the counseling profession and pursue licensure and encourages you to explore and develop your own theoretical framework in counseling.

Scholarships

The UF College of Education awards over 150 scholarships annually through a single application process managed by EduGator Central. All current and prospective students are eligible to apply. Scholarship details and disbursements vary, with funds typically allocated each Fall semester.

Couple and Family Clinic

The UF Couple and Family Clinic is part of the UF Counselor Education’s professional training program. It is staffed by UF faculty, doctoral students and advanced counseling students specializing in couples and family therapy. The clinic’s services are free of cost and open to all.py.
