About

Nate Fackler is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Teaching & Learning at the University of Florida’s College of Education. He has a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Georgia, an MA in Applied Linguistics/TESOL from Georgia State University, and a BA in Southeast Asian Studies from the University of Washington. He has taught English language, linguistics, academic writing, and teacher training courses at language schools, K-12 schools, colleges, and universities in the United States, Türkiye, Thailand, Brazil, Spain, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Japan. While teaching and living abroad, Nate has learned to speak and write in several languages including Turkish, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, Thai, and Japanese. His research focuses on the writing of multilingual learners and how a writer creates a voice in written language. Employing methodological approaches from corpus linguistics, variationist sociolinguistics, and qualitative interviews to examine academic writing, he is currently investigating the lexical variation in adjective intensifiers, the social meanings they carry, and the rhetorical appropriateness of using certain adjective intensifiers in academic writing.
