The College of Education recently hosted its 20th annual Scholarship and Awards dinner where more that 160 scholarships were awarded and Outstanding Graduate Students were recognized. The yearly event highlights philanthropy and honors students who have contributed to the success of this past year.
Donors and supporters of the college gathered to recognize the determination of our 2023 scholarship and award recipients. The recipients’ work continuously raises the standard of excellence for the College of Education. Each in their own way, these students have gone above and beyond what has been expected of them, raising the bar for future education students. Outstanding Graduate Research Award- Brian Abramowitz
Brian Abramowitz is a doctoral student in Curriculum and Instruction. Brian has achieved a Bachelor’s in Secondary Education and Earth Sciences as well as a Master’s in Adolescent Special Education. He has demonstrated excellence through his socially responsible and community-oriented AI in education research, and exceptional outreach to Florida’s K-12 schools. Beyond his research, Brian has served as President of the Student Alliance of Graduates in Education (SAGE), working to further other students’ opportunities to engage in and disseminate their own work.

Outstanding Graduate Leadership Award – Hannah Fox
Hannah Fox is a student in the Educational Specialist in School Counseling and Guidance. Hannah has achieved a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and is working toward a Master’s in Counselor Education. The award was earned for her work alongside a team of four supervisors in the Early Childhood Education bachelor’s program. The faculty selection committee was particularly impressed by Hannah’s use of the Practice Based Coaching framework and her success in leading the new supervisors to meet departmental goals for model fidelity.

Outstanding Graduate Professional Practice Award – Michael Scofield
Michael Scofield is a doctoral student in Curriculum and Instruction. Michael has achieved Bachelor’s in English Education and a M.S. in Higher Education Administration. Michael’s service to the profession includes playing a pivotal role in revising and strengthening core courses in the college’s undergraduate teacher education program. In addition to recognition as an excellent course instructor, Michael helped secure grant funding in support of the Akwaaba Freedom School which provides summer enrichment through a research-based and multicultural curriculum.
