Write Yourself into the Art Museum! | Words on Canvas

Words on Canvas is an annual competition at the Harn Museum of Art for University of Florida and Santa Fe College students interested in inspiring museumgoers by writing poetry or prose connected with a work of art. This year, students can choose from 26 artworks covering each of the Harn’s collecting areas on view throughout the museum.


Writers of winning entries will be awarded fun prizes and have the opportunity to read their entry in front of their artwork at the Harn’s Museum. Their essay/poem will be printed in a brochure to be given to them, featured at the front desk and available for download on the webpage. Students may submit until midnight, March 11, 2021For more information – including a list of artworks, see the Words on Canvas website at http://www.harn.ufl.edu/wordsoncanvas

Student Life Community Outreach Summer Intern

Description: We are seeking motivated UF students to serve as interns to assist with our elementary, middle, and high school summer initiatives hosted through the Office of the Vice President for Student Life. Throughout the summer interns will learn about leadership, program administration and evaluation, and how to turn these experiences into future job opportunities.
Schedule: The time commitment is approx. 20 hours and can be flexible to work around class schedules/prior commitments.

Community Programs Internship Project - Harn Museum of Art

Description: This intern will work closely with education staff to develop and implement exhibition and collection-related art- making opportunities for family audiences both in and outside of the museum:

  • Art Cart: On-going
  • Tot Time: First Friday of the Month from 10 – 11 AM: June 3 + August 5
  • Tours: On-going

Specific Duties:

  • Research, develop and implement art-making opportunities for specific ages and ability
  • Create lesson plans and art making
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of select Harn exhibitions, works of art and themes across the
  • Read and apply print and online texts that detail best practices and new findings in arteducation, public programs, evaluation, art interpretation and visitor
  • Other duties as May include involvement in School and Docent Programs at themuseum.

Hours per week: 10 hours (During museum business hours: M-F 8 am–5 pm, to include above program dates)

Qualifications Needed:

  • Coursework or experience in education, art education, studio art, museum education, communityengagement and/or art
  • Professional correspondence and strong verbal and written communication skills appropriate inrepresenting the
  • Research and creative problem-solving
  • Must be enthusiastic about art, learning, effective communication and creating an accessible andequitable environment for all
 Learning Objectives for the Intern:
  • Gain professional experience in museum practices and an understanding of the role of museumeducation and how it fits within larger programs and
  • Gain program development and implementation
  • Improve public speaking, visitor service, leadership and research and writing

Master Builder Camp Counselors

Description: Master Builder Camp located in Gainesville, FL is hiring camp counselors for our summer day camp for kids 5 – 16. This position has a lot of skill building opportunities for education majors and counselor education majors.
Schedule: Position is full time from May 18th-Aug 1st (M-F for most part).

We are a 5-week, coed, residential camp in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Be The Change Summit: Leading Sustainable Impact

Description: Something new is happening in March…. UF’s Brown Center for Leadership and Service has partnered with UF-born international nonprofit P4H Global to host the Be The Change Summit: Leading Sustainable Impact.

This two-day event unites and edifies leaders to learn and practice the skills necessary to solve the complex problems of tomorrow. Through a collaboration between the BCLS and P4H Global, this Summit will equip students with the theoretical and practical elements P4H Global uses to transform the education system in Haiti so that they too can bring about sustainable development and social change. From skill-building sessions to breakout groups to case studies, the Summit equips participants to critically consider the issues they care about most.

IMPORTANT DETAILS:

  • Who: any UF Student is invited to apply
  • When: Friday March 18 (evening) – Saturday, March 19 (all day)
  • Where: Friday in the Reitz; Saturday at Lake Wauburg

Sixth Grade Tutor

Description: I am looking for a tutor to help my 6th grade son who has learning difficulties with assignments in the general academic subjects (math, science, language arts, social studies). The biggest challenge for him right now is science. The work itself is not too difficult, but he struggles to get going, staying on task, and doing assignments with multiple steps. Preference is for a tutor who is (1) comfortable assisting in several subjects (2) is patient and has experience working with kids with learning challenges (3) will be in Gainesville for at least a year and can meet twice per week.
When: Two or three times a week, 1 hour sessions.
