College of Education Research Symposium

The 2022 University of Florida College of Education Research Symposium, “Advancing Education through Research,” is coming up! This event will take place from 2:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 14th. It is hosted by the UF College of Education, Education College Council, and Student Alliance of Graduates in Education who will provide an inviting environment for students, practitioners, faculty, and others to get together, share their work, and discuss pressing topics in education.

We are inviting all undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, teachers, and practitioners to submit a proposal to present at the symposium. If you are not submitting a proposal, save the date and join us at Norman Hall on April 14th to hear about the exciting work being done and engage in important discussions in education.

Here are a couple of details about the upcoming symposium:

  • Symposium will be held from 2:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 14th – Save the Date!

  • Proposal submissions (250 words maximum) are due by Thursday, March 10th  – you can submit your proposal using this form:

  • Submission types: Roundtable and Paper Presentations as well as Posters. An award ceremony will be held towards the end of the symposium for the best submissions.

City of Gainesville Fellowship

Description: Applications for the 2022-23 cohort of the City of Gainesville fellowship are now open to all University of Florida undergraduates. The City is eager to invite students from all majors and all colleges at UF to apply. Students who are selected as fellows will work part time (about 15 hrs/wk) in a variety of local Gainesville government offices during the fall and spring semesters of an entire academic year, and be paid the city’s hourly living wage, $15/hr. Guided Discoveries Summer Camp Counselors

Description: Guided Discoveries is looking for college students who are passionate about working with children!  Our summer camp in Clover, VA is looking for counselors for its AstroCampCamp CHOP, and Camp Motorsport programs. Summer camp provides a wonderful supplemental experience for education and counseling students.  Students will have the benefit of working with children in a more relaxed environment, allowing them to connect with children on a different level and in a different time frame than is often able to take place in a formal school or clinical setting.  Many of our staff continue on to teaching and counseling careers after leaving us, and they all have benefitted from the skills and experiences gained by working at our summer camps.  It’s a great way for current students to gain real-world experience and to get paid for it!  Plus summer camp is just… fun!  Our staff have opportunities to be creative, mentor children, make lasting, meaningful friendships, and develop skills that will benefit them in their personal and professional lives.

ESOL Achievers Volunteers

Description: ESOL Achievers is a non-profit organization at UF supporting over 100 ESOL (ESL) students at Gainesville High School (GHS), with around 80% of Latinx students from low-income families. Our organization works to provide support and guidance for our students to forge their unique paths to achieve their professional, educational, and personal goals through mentorship and tutorship.

We are recruiting volunteers interested in a community engagement project to promote mental health and well-being to the students beginning with a Wellness Fair at GHS. Volunteers would help us build and coordinate relationships with community partners for the fair and assist with the event. We are currently working on a mental health initiative to provide students access to equitable mental health services focused on mental health promotion and prevention through community partnerships that foster their social and emotional well-being to support their academic achievements.

Tutoring and Childcare


Description: I’m looking for a babysitter for my 4 year old daughter for the times when we are in town. She must be fun, energetic, creative, good with play and imagination, love children, naturally good with children, know how to interact with children, able to prepare snacks and generally experienced.
