Fall Student Fellowship

Description: This virtual student fellowship program brings together young people and provides them with hands-on learning opportunities as they gain experience with local government, including policy proposals, connecting with constituents, developing external communications, and managing teams. Through a 10 hour a week commitment for 4 months, fellows will have the opportunity to not only collaborate with each other, but to directly contribute to the vital work of improving our schools. Our fellows work directly with Ms. Santos, influence the work of the office, and are actively involved in shaping policies brought to the School Board. As part of the fellowship, we are looking for students who can serve as leaders for some of our teams. See flyer below.

University Press of Florida Publicity Assistant (OPS)

Description: The Publicity Assistant is a member of the Sales and Marketing Department and reports to the Marketing Manager. This position assists with the implementation of publicity campaigns for books published by the State University System Press (University Press of Florida), including helping secure book reviews and other media coverage, maintaining the Press’s author events calendar, and contributing social media content. The publicity assistant also performs routine clerical tasks related to the marketing and promotion of up to 90 new books per year and a backlist of more than 3,000 books and assists the sales and marketing team with a variety of tasks that increase the efficiencyof the team in general. Presence in Gainesville area preferred; this is an in person position and not eligible to be fully remote. Some travel may be required.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Corresponding with authors, customers, media, vendors/partners, and others, and fulfilling their requests in a timely and professional manner;
  • Writing marketing copy and social media content and drafting email marketing projects for review by the Marketing Manager;
  • Maintaining public calendar of author book events;
  • Assisting in the promotion of publishing symposiums and other events hosted by the Press;
  • Compiling and tracking reviews received for UPF books;
  • Assisting with author, media, and bookstore outreach, media database maintenance, and publicity-related clerical tasks;
  • Assisting with correspondence and other clerical tasks related to the solicitation of advance praise for books;
  • Researching sales and marketing leads;
  • Assorted clerical duties, including filing, mailing, and data

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area or equivalent combination of education, training, and
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word and Excel), and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WordPress, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Writes clearly and engagingly for a variety of audiences (e.g. marketing copy, press releases, and blog posts).
  • Strong skills in organization, prioritization, and time
  • Works both independently and as part of a team to meet
  • Familiarity with Adobe InDesign and

YMCA - Residential Camp Counselor

Description: Provides minute to minute supervision of campers in a residential setting; plans and implements developmentally appropriate camp activities for youth. Requires employee to live at Camp, during camp season
Essential Functions:

  1. Provides active, engaged, and continuous supervision to all children in their direct care or activity area.
  2. Plans and leads activities independently and with other staff,  that meet the emotional, physical, intellectual needs of both the individual child and the group, and contribute to the goals and philosophies of the camp program.
  3. Establishes and provides appropriate interactions with the children individually and in groups and encourages their involvement in activities.
  4. Utilizes appropriate positive behavior guidance techniques that include: redirection, positive reinforcement of children’s efforts, and anticipation of elimination of potential problems.
  5. Supports the health and wellness of campers and self through following health care protocol, and adhering to camp policies and procedures.
  6. Encourages identification and verbalization of feelings.
  7. Participates in the maintenance of the facility to ensure it is clean at all times, including but not limited to: cleaning cabins, picking up trash, cleaning up spills, cleaning furniture, toys and supplies, sweeping up after meals, or art activities, cleaning tables, keeping bathrooms clean, stacking chairs, etc.
  8. Remains constantly aware of the growing needs of each child, offering new and enriching experiences as each child reaches each level of development and skill.
  9. Contributes to an inclusive, positive and solution oriented staff/team culture.

  2. Ability to live for up to a week at a time in a Camp Cabin in possibly harsh weather elements such as heat or rain.
  3. Be in good physical health.
