Institute of Reading Development - Summer Teachers

Description: Now Accepting Applications for Summer 2023

The Institute of Reading Development is now hiring summer teachers for our reading programs for students of all ages. In these programs we combine skills instruction with the experience of reading and discussing really good books. We help our students develop strong fluency and comprehension skills. Our mission is to inspire a lifelong love of reading.

This is a great opportunity to do challenging and meaningful work in a supportive environment. Teaching experience is valuable but not necessary, and we do not require teaching certification. We welcome your application, whether you are an upcoming or recent college grad, a graduate student, or a current teacher.

Our Teachers:  

  • Earn between $600-$700 per week.
  • Receive comprehensive paid training and ongoing support.
  • Gain over 250 hours of experience teaching their own classes to students from 4-year-olds to adults.

Schedule Details and Commitment: 

  • 10-week seasonal commitment: 3 weeks of paid training followed by 6-7 weeks of teaching.
  • 37-42 hours per week.
  • Schedules consist of five days of teaching per week, including both weekend days.
  • Flexible start dates throughout May and June. Please see the application for more details.
  • Entry-level position, with opportunities for continued employment with the Institute after the summer.

Successful Institute Teachers: 

  • Have strong reading skills and read fiction for pleasure.
  • Are responsible and hard-working, with strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Are comfortable and confident with technology.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Are active, patient, and supportive with students and parents.

Application: We teach most of our students online and hire remote teachers throughout the country. In select metropolitan regions we also offer in-person classes on the campuses of our partner universities.  Teaching schedules in these regions may include both online and in-person classes. Oak Hall Summer Camp Counselor

Description: The Oak Hall Summer Program is pleased to announce that it has several openings for summer camp counselors. Our day camps serve kids in Early Childhood (Preschool-Kindergarten); Lower School (Grades 1-5); and Middle School (open for Grades 5-9) and counselors are needed in each division.

Your primary goal is to provide a challenging learning environment, a safe camp environment, supervision of campers, and a fun camp experience for the campers you work with throughout the day. Delivering camp wide programs, activities, and trips and leading discussions and activities for the camper with which you will be charged will be key duties during the eight weeks of the camp. Working with the Summer Camp Head Counselor, you will supervise and mentor the CIT staff for the program. We are looking for people with expertise in arts & crafts, outdoor education, indoor & outdoor sports, and enrichment (2)

Counselors would be expected to be onsite for a June agreement (June 5-June 30); a July agreement (July 3-July 28 with no camp July 4th); a full summer agreement (June 5-July 28 with no camp July 4th); or a hybrid agreement mutually agreed upon with summer leadership staff. FT Hours would be 8:30-4:15 three times weekly, 7:30-4:15 one day weekly, and 8:30-6:00 one day weekly. Salary is $13.00/hour.

Description: The Oak Hall Summer Program is pleased to announce that it is hiring for the key positions of Summer Camp Media and Marketing Specialist on the summer leadership team. Your primary goal is to capture the daily experience of campers enrolled in our program and share with families through secure digital outlets. Additionally, captured images should be used to market and showcase the Summer & Auxiliary Program to prospective families.

The Summer Camp Media and Marketing Specialist requires on-site leadership from May 30, 2023 to July 28, 2023, weekdays with no camp July 4th. Beginning April 17th, 2023, up to 15 hours per week is available and could be scheduled remotely.

Part-Time Graduate Assistantship - Counselor Education College of Education – UF

Description: Project Recognition, Empowerment, and Action for Child mental Health (REACH) in The Counselor Education Program at The University of Florida is currently accepting applications for a REACH project coordinator. Project REACH is a federally-funded training grant that involves training adults in Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA), a program to help adults recognize the signs for when youth 12-18 need mental health support and to know how to help them.

Successful applicants will demonstrate good organizational and communication skills. We are seeking someone with good intercultural skills and the ability to develop strong community outreach/presence. The position is contingent on continued grant funding, but currently the project is renewable for a 5-year period. Prior experience in counseling or community mental health is desirable.

This appointment will begin in March, 2022 or as soon as filled. The Counselor Education Program is housed within the School of Human Development and Organizational Studies in the College of Education. Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Comfortable with community outreach

Responsibilities:

  • Attend project team meetings
  • Assist with recruitment for YMHFA trainings.
  • Outreach to build and sustain community partnerships.
  • Organize program activities (e.g., ordering training materials, organizing trainings)
  • Collect and manage data (e.g., Excel) and assist in reporting to the funding agency
  • Assist with website and social media/marketing development and maintenance
  • Attend meetings with funding agency as requested

Remuneration & Additional Information

  • Tuition for up to nine (9) credit hours per semester plus the current UF minimum salary for a 9-month Graduate Assistant appointment.
  • The contract will be valid August through May
  • Opportunity for hourly summer employment may be available
  • Graduate students have access to health insurance through the University.

UF Chapter of Children Beyond Our Borders

Description: We are a part of a nonprofit organization that aims to empower underserved families in the Gainesville community by providing educational resources to children. We work with many migrant families and many families in Colombia as well. We offer different tutoring programs for children, and programs that help teach English to Spanish speaking families.
