Dissertation Award Winner!

Congratulations to Niraj A. Wagh (Ed.D. ’22) for earning the 2023 Outstanding Dissertation Award from Bellwether College Consortium! While at the University of Florida, he received the Barbara Keener (Ed.D. ‘76) Dissertation Research Fund, which supports the work of doctoral students focused on the study of community and state colleges. Niraj will be celebrated at the 2023 Community College Futures Assembly held 2/26-28 in San Antonio.


Community Impact Funding – Brown Center for Leadership & Service

Undergraduate or graduate students are invited to apply for funding for civic or community-based initiatives that address a critical need in the Gainesville community. Funding of up to $2,000 support student-led engagement projects within Alachua County where students engage with community partners, staff, and/faculty. Projects should be designed in partnership with the community, founded in a mutually beneficial relationship that support positive change in the community. UF Survey Opportunity: Parental Incarceration Study (paid opportunity)

To better understand the support needs of youth who have experienced parental incarceration, our research group is looking for UF students to participate in a focus group and survey about their experiences with parental incarceration. The focus group will be led by a young adult who has also experienced parental incarceration, and you’ll receive $50 for participating. To participate, you MUST have, or had in the past, an incarcerated parent or family member. Program Coordinator - Summer Health Education Program

Description: The Summer Health Education Program (SHPEP) is looking for looking for a program coordinator. SHPEP is an immersive six-week summer enrichment program hosted by the UF HSC colleges for pre-health students from disadvantaged backgrounds interested in pursuing a career in the health sciences. The program consists of academic enrichment, career exploration, networking opportunities, research and lab experiences and so much more. It is two weeks on-line and four weeks on campus.

The program coordinator is an ideal position for someone starting out in their career – with interests in student affairs, academic advising and program planning. Undergraduate Degree Director - University of Virginia

Description: The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education (CISE) at the UVA School of Education and Human Development seeks applicants for an experienced teacher educator to serve as the Undergraduate Degree Director within the Teacher Education program.

CISE offers three undergraduate programs – Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special Education – to support students seeking their initial teaching license. We seek a candidate who is enthusiastic about helping to shape the program’s culture and practices and who can adapt through a process of continuous improvement to meet students’ needs. A commitment to creating environments and programs which support the inclusion and achievement of students from of all backgrounds and identities is vital. The person in this position must have excellent communication skills to be effective in building relationships with faculty, academic departments, and partners across the school.

Reporting to the Director of Teacher Education, the Undergraduate Degree Director will be responsible for addressing the diverse needs of students, including internal and external transfer students. The Undergraduate Degree Director will collaborate with partners across the school to develop relationships, provide academic advising, and foster community engagement. Duties will include the day-to-day operations of the undergraduate programs, as well as leading continuous improvement initiatives to support student outcomes.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Teach core teacher education coursework, including methods, internship, and seminar courses.
  • Engage faculty in a continuous review of the undergraduate curriculum scope and sequence.
  • Maintain program materials, including Canvas sites and advising documents.
  • Collaborate with graduate degree directors to develop pathways for undergraduate students to pursue advanced studies.
  • Collaborate in the design and execution of program evaluations to support continuous improvement
  • Oversee undergraduate advising, serving as the advisor for undergraduate students.
  • Oversee undergraduate progress monitoring by engaging with course instructors and other student support personnel. Collaborate with Student Affairs to identify resources and supports for students.
  • Partner with faculty and staff on Performance Improvement Plan development and implementation, providing support to students as needed.
  • Run cohort meetings, including orientations and programming for enrolled students. Develop asynchronous content to supplement synchronous sessions.

Minimum Requirements:
Education: Master’s Degree Required.  Bachelor’s Degree and relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of Master’s Degree.
Experience: Four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree (or ABD) in teaching and learning, curriculum and instruction, education, or a related field
  • Relevant professional experience in advising, curriculum development, and/or program implementation and evaluation
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and belonging
  • Strong communication, collaboration and computer skills
  • Experience teaching and working in a higher education setting
  • Experience designing curricular materials, including scope and sequence documents
  • Experience implementing new initiatives and evaluating those initiatives

Florida Literacy Coalition Volunteers

Description: The Florida Literacy Coalition, in collaboration with adult education programs throughout Florida, will be offering classes via Zoom during regularly scheduled times throughout the week. Instructors commit to the following:

1) Leading an intermediate-level distance learning class of up to 20 adult English language learners for one 90-minute class per week for 8 weeks. You will be paired with a co-teacher.
2) Using free online materials.
3) Attending one mandatory instructor training session

4) Participating in three instructor meet-ups during the semester.

STEM Volunteers at Howard Bishop Middle School

Description: Howard Bishop Middle School is looking for 10-12 volunteers to judge their ExploraVision Future Fair on Thursday, February 23rd from 8:00am-12:30pm in the Media Center. The ExploraVision competition engages K-12 students in real-world problem-solving with a heavy emphasis on STEM. It challenges students to envision and communicate new technology that may be created 10 or more years in the future through collaborative brainstorming and research of current science and technology. If you are interested in judging this event, click HERE.
 
The second event is Stephen Foster’s STEM Night, scheduled for Thursday, April 6th from 6:00pm-7:00pm. We are looking for 10-12 volunteers working in STEM fields to attend. Each guest would be assigned their own table and would be asked to bring some sort of activity or visual that they are able to share with students and their families as they walk around the event.
