Development Specialist for Third Grader

Description: Development Specialist needed for a third grade boy in Jacksonville, FL. Tyce is a happy & intelligent boy with a loving heart. He is currently in a mainstream third grade classroom and needs a full-time developmental specialist to assist him at school.

Tyce was born at 24 weeks gestational age (weighing 1 pound, 8 ounces), spent four months in the NICU and is one of God’s true miracles.  Tyce has cerebral palsy and does not walk but gets around by scooting and crawling.  He uses a wheelchair and/or activity chair at school (he is very small for his age; closer in size to a 4 -5 year old).

In closing, we are looking for a true professional who will be an advocate for Tyce.  We are looking to fill the position immediately.
Testimonial from Previous Development Specialist: “When I took this position, I had no idea how quickly Tyce would steal my heart. Within a week Tyce had quickly won me over and has melted my heart ever since.  Tyce is a strong-willed little boy. He is incredibly smart and quickly learns and remembers things like I have never experienced before. He is also extremely sweet and funny, and I love singing and dancing with him.

Before Tyce, I had heard the phrase “it takes a village”, but never truly understood the phrase until beginning my journey with him. With Tyce, it takes a village, and I am beyond blessed to be part of his village. Between parents, teachers, therapists, & doctors it truly is a village. Communication and teamwork are key. His next developmental specialist needs to be prepared to love, advocate, and communicate for Tyce. During my time with Tyce, I’ve been able to watch him grow physically, academically, socially with his peers, independently, and emotionally.  It has been a true joy to be a part of and watch these growths. I’ve learned a lot about Tyce, myself, teamwork, patience, understanding, devotion, communication, and love in this position. Not every day is easy, but I promise his “snuggle bug” and “I love you’s” make it all worth it! I am heartbroken to be leaving but I am grateful to forever be a part of his village.”
Testimonial from Speech Therapist: “During the past four years, I have seen Tyce grow emotionally, physically, and academically. He is a very intelligent and funny boy. Tyce has always surprised me with his reading and spelling skills, his ability to state the alphabet backwards, and his love for math. He also loves to learn different languages. I taught him how to count in Japanese one day, and since then, he loves to count in Japanese.  I have also observed Tyce’s speech and language skills significantly improve. During my typical days with Tyce, we work on academics that include reading comprehension, adding and subtracting, spelling, writing, etc. He is very determined to succeed when we work together. Tyce has done well with his schoolwork this year, and he will only continue to grow. I always enjoy my time with Tyce, as he is such a sweet and loving boy. I am very thankful to have him in my life.”
Location: Jacksonville, Fl.
Salary: The job is a salaried position, starting at $45,000, with a bi-annual bonus of $1,000. The school system will hire whomever we find, which adds the benefit of free health insurance, other benefits that include vacation and sick leave.
Application: If you are interested, please send your cover letter & resume to Kristyn at zkristyn@yahoo.com.
