UNC School of Education - Chapel Hill Carolina Community Academy Lab School Teacher

Description: The UNC School of Education is currently seeking a UNC-Chapel Hill Carolina Community Academy Lab School Teacher to serve in a classroom at the kindergarten grade. The School of Education position is a ten-month, full-time, teaching position housed on-site at the Carolina Community Academy starting August 1, 2022. Teachers at the Carolina Community Academy report to the Carolina Community Academy Principal. Teachers within the Carolina Community Academy may coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.

As an educator within Carolina Community Academy, the teacher will foster a culture of innovation that supports effective instructional practices/strategies to promote student academic and personal success for all students in the school. The teacher will work collaboratively with others to facilitate and implement innovative instruction to achieve the mission of the school. The teacher will work collaboratively with the Carolina Community Academy Principal, UNC Chapel Hill Carolina Community Academy liaison, and university faculty/staff to support the successful social-emotional, physical, and academic development of the students within Carolina Community Academy.

Services and Volunteer Opportunities

Balance 180 Gymnastics & Sports Academy Volunteers

Description: Balance 180 summer camp provides a great learning experience for student volunteers. All of our volunteers work 1-1 or 2-1 with the participating campers in various activities, including gymnastics time, crafts, and games. The athletes have a variety of disabilities, including Autism, Down Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and Cerebral Palsy, among others.

  • Balance 180 Summer Camp: The camp will be offered from July 11th to July 29th and will be held Monday – Friday from 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM.

  • Adaptive Gymnastics Classes: During our Adaptive Gymnastics Classes, we teach gymnasts with physical or intellectual disabilities foundational skills on the vault, bars, beam, and floor in a step-by-step, individualized process. Our volunteers work one-on-one with the athletes and help each athlete work at their own pace. Volunteers focus on helping the athletes improve motor skills and encourage them to follow instructions and make new friends. No gymnastics experience is required to be a great volunteer. The Adaptive Gymnastics classes will be held on most Saturdays from 12:30-2:00 pm.

Summer Childcare

Description: We are seeking a babysitter for our 4 year old son during the summer and potentially longer. He does not nap or have any particular schedule that needs to be kept. He just needs someone to play with during the day while my husband and I work from home and take care of our 5 month old.
Pay Rate: $10 an hour with a flexible schedule.

Pay Rate: $20 per hour.
