Kristen Apraiz
Clinical Associate Professor
About
As a clinical associate professor in mathematics education, Dr. Kristen Apraiz has been engaged in mathematics teacher preparation in both the elementary and secondary school programs. She is currently most involved in the mathematics coordination and teaching in the UFTeach program, a UTeach institute member program with minors in secondary mathematics and science education. The program philosophy for the UFTeach program focuses on providing preservice teachers with field experiences that challenge their notion of what it means to teach secondary mathematics and structuring opportunities for reflection to grow as educators. She helps to build partnerships with local K - 12 schools and non-profit organizations where the UFTeach preservice teachers have opportunities to work with educators and students.
Dr. Apraiz's research interests include teacher education for both preservice and practicing teachers. She is interested in field experiences for secondary mathematics preservice teachers, developing reflective preservice teachers, and the role of technology in preservice teacher education. Currently, she serves as the mathematics facilitator for the Prime Online: Teacher Pedagogical Content Knowledge and Research-based Practice in Inclusive Elementary Mathematics Classrooms project.
