Research Biography

Kristen Apraiz, Ph.D. is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Teaching and Learning, College of Education, at the University of Florida. She received her M.S. in Mathematics Education from Florida State University in 2004 and proceeded to teach mathematics at all levels with the majority of the time in secondary education, for seven years. In 2010, she returned to school to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Florida in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on mathematics education. In 2013, she began her role as a Clinical Assistant Professor teaching elementary mathematics content and methods courses for undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Apraiz teaches several courses in the Unified Elementary Proteach program, including:

MAE 3312: Content and Methods for Teaching Mathematics in the Inclusive Elementary Classroom Part 1

MAE 4310: Content and Methods for Teaching Mathematics in the Inclusive Elementary Classroom Part 1

MAE 5347: Teaching K – 8 Mathematics

MAE 5396: Formative Assessment in Mathematics

In addition to teaching, Dr. Apraiz serves as an adviser for Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education and coordinates the first semester practicum experience for the Proteach program. She is a member of several national organizations, including the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators, and School Science and Mathematics Association. She also serves as a Preview Adviser for UF.

Dr. Apraiz’s research interests include elementary preservice teachers’ mathematical task knowledge and integrating technology and mathematics.
