About

David Herman, Ph.D., is a Clinical Assistant Professor of ESOL and Bilingual Education at the University of Florida. He holds a BA in Elementary Education, MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, and PhD Language, Literacy, and Technology.

Dr. Herman has years of experience teaching English as a foreign language overseas including a year in Beijing, China at a language center and four years in elementary and junior high schools across Taiwan. He spent three years with the Fulbright Taiwan program training and advising English Teaching Assistant (ETAs) grantees and assisting local schools in developing bilingual education programs. Dr. Herman is proficient in Mandarin Chinese and participated in the Critical Languages Scholarship program studying advanced Mandarin in Qingdao, China.

His international experience also extends into Europe where he taught at the University of Tartu Narva College in Estonia as an English Language Fellow and as a Virtual English Language Specialist supporting English teachers across Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Türkiye as they adapted to online teaching strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Herman's research interests center around technology-enhanced language teaching and learning, online teacher professional development, and teacher education.
