About
Joyce Calixtro is a Lecturer and Practicum & Internship Coordinator in the Counselor Education program. She is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, with a minor in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences, and her Master of Education and Education Specialist degrees in Marriage and Family Counseling at the University of Florida. She is a native Spanish speaker and has provided individual, couple, and family bilingual therapy services in various settings, including an academic medical center, outpatient clinics, school systems, community, and in-home settings for 7 years. She specializes in providing evidence-based therapy interventions to address mood disorders, pain management, sleep disorders, weight management, trauma, grief, tinnitus distress, and health-related anxiety due to chronic medical conditions, among other mental health concerns. She is passionate about working with diverse populations and supporting counselors in training in developing necessary competencies through professional development experiences and opportunities to work with diverse individuals, couples, and family systems.
