He will be missed: Professor Emeritus John Newell dies at 91

John Michael Newell, Ph.D., 91, a professor emeritus of educational psychology and a 30-year member of the graduate faculty at the UF College of Education, passed away Sunday, June 11, in Gainesville. He was a longtime instructor in the Department of Foundations of Education and served as acting director of the unit for two years in 1981-1983.

Bert Sharp, former COE dean, dies at 81

Former COE dean Bert Sharp, who led UF’s College of Education
through the turbulent and transformative 1970s, died Aug. 31 in Naples. He was
81.

Sharp was a professor in the Counselor Education department
in 1968, when he was catapulted into the dean’s position by the tragic death of
then-dean Kimball Wiles, who was killed in a car accident.

Professor Emeritus Arthur Lewis dies at 89
