Dyslexia is common. Expertise is not. While potentially 1 in 5 children are affected by dyslexia, not enough educators have the specialized training to help them thrive. Our online dyslexia certificate provides students with applicable, evidence-based skills in just one year.
The UF online graduate dyslexia certificate is open to anyone with a bachelor’s degree. Participants are often practicing teachers in general and special education. However, speech-language pathologists, school psychologists, counselors, caregivers and more will also benefit from the dyslexia certificate program.

The UF graduate certificate in dyslexia offers high-quality professional development for teachers and other practitioners. We focus on assessment and intervention for students with dyslexia, equipping you with a powerful toolkit for supporting learners.
Upon completing the program, you will be prepared to:
- Administer and analyze literacy assessments to guide intervention
- Design evidence-based literacy interventions that produce measurable progress in K–12 settings
- Provide targeted, hands-on literacy support for students with dyslexia
Opportunities for additional professional growth:
- The UF Dyslexia Certificate can be completed as a stand-alone certificate or as part of a degree-seeking program at UF, including as part of our highly ranked special education programs.
- UF is accredited by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), and our Dyslexia Certificate is designed to meet IDA’s Knowledge and Practice Standards. Graduates of the Dyslexia Certificate program are eligible to apply for certification as a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist through The Center for Effective Reading Instruction: https://effectivereading.org/dyslexia-interventionist/
- The Dyslexia Certificate offers a route to earning the Florida Reading Endorsement. Florida teachers who currently hold a valid Professional Certificate may be eligible to add the Florida Reading Endorsement to their credentials by taking the UF dyslexia courses. Completing courses from the dyslexia certificate does not automatically result in obtaining the Florida endorsement. Upon successfully completing the dyslexia certificate, candidates must submit the required documentation to the Florida Department of Education on their own to earn the Florida Reading Endorsement credential.
Dyslexia Graduate Certificate Curriculum
The dyslexia certificate can only be earned through the successful completion of the five courses listed. The University of Florida Graduate School sets the requirements for graduate certificates; more information can be found on our application instructions page.

- Course 1: EEX 6135- Foundations of Literacy Development and Dyslexia (6 week course)
- Course 2: EEX 6136-Language and the Brain (8 week course)
- Course 3: EEX 6137 Dyslexia: Assessment for Intervention (8 week course)
- Course 4: EEX 6138 Dyslexia: Intervention Methods (8 week course)
- Course 5: EEX 6855 Dyslexia: Practicum in Assessment and Intervention (16 week course)

Standard Pathway (1 Year)
Students entering the Standard Pathway follow our traditional program plan. Examples of the Standard Pathway appear in the table below. Students who wish to graduate from the program within one year may prefer this Pathway.

Extended Pathway (1.5–2 Years)
For students who would prefer a slower pace, the Extended Pathway may be a good option (see table below). Students enrolled in the Extended Pathway may take 1 course per semester. The Extended Pathway can generally be completed in 1.5 years.

Program Plans
All enrolled students complete a program plan, indicating the semesters they plan to take each course. The program uses the plan to support students as they progress through coursework. Program plans are managed through the Program’s Advising page.

Reading Endorsement
