Balancing professional responsibilities with personal goals can be a challenge. That’s why our online special education program, also known as Teach Well, is structured to give working teachers the flexibility they need to earn a master’s degree on their own schedule. Drawing on the latest research, our program equips educators with tools and skills that can be applied immediately in the classroom and beyond. Program graduates find that their degree creates new opportunities for school-based, district-level, and clinical roles, as well as nonprofit and community-based positions.

Students typically complete this part-time online special education program in two years.

Program Overview

Whether you’re already teaching in special education or working in other education areas and want to broaden your expertise, our master’s in special education will help you better support students with and without disabilities. This program offers a flexible learning environment with no requirement for on-campus attendance, making it the perfect fit for busy professionals.

Students in our online special education program can choose from six academic tracks:

• Academic
• Behavior
• Disabilities in Society
• Dyslexia
• Early Childhood Studies
• Early Childhood Care and Policy

Students are welcome to focus on one specific track or mix courses across tracks based on their professional interests and career goals.

36 credit hours are required to complete the Teach Well online master’s in special education. All students take the 12-credit Teach Well core curriculum. The remaining 24 credit hours are obtained from courses associated with a specialization pathway or from a combination of courses within the six tracks.

• An expert practitioner ready to apply strengths-based strategies in the classroom or work in a more focused role as a behavior specialist or interventionist.
• A school or district leader equipped to guide systems-level change as an instructional coach, special education coordinator or professional development specialist.
• A specialized community advocate prepared for vital roles outside the traditional school system, including a professional in a nonprofit or clinical setting, an early intervention specialist or a transition coordinator.

Students in this program are usually working education professionals committed to enhancing their practice and better serving all learners in their classrooms.
