Program Overview
Embrace the opportunity to stand out in your profession by completing a program that challenges you to apply your learning in meaningful ways. Our post-master’s program offers a direct path to advanced your practice, with a focus on applied skills rather than the research emphasis of our on-campus Ph.D. program. This practical, purposeful degree equips you with expert skills to lead and support students with and without disabilities. The program’s courses feature a flexible, online format that respects your professional commitments.
Students in our Ed.S. in special education online program can choose from six academic tracks:
- Academic
- Behavior
- Disabilities in Society
- Dyslexia
- Early Childhood Studies
- Early Childhood Care and Policy
Students have the flexibility to concentrate on a single specialization or combine courses across different tracks. Our Ed.S. in special education online program allows students to mix courses across tracks to build a program tailored to their unique professional aspirations.
To complete the UF Teach Well education specialist degree, students are required to earn an additional 36 credit hours beyond their master’s degree, as well as complete a final project and an exam. All students take the 12-credit Teach Well core curriculum. The remaining 24 credit hours are obtained from courses associated with a specialization pathway or from a combination of courses within the six tracks.
Ed.S. in Special Education Online Program Highlights
A central feature of this program is the culminating capstone project and exam. The Ed.S. project is not a theoretical paper. This is a practical inquiry grounded in current research. We design every project to be instantly applicable to your specific work environment. Guided by faculty mentors, you will identify a challenge in your own context and develop a solution that is flexible, relevant and directly benefits your professional life. Professional trainings, implementation projects and professional development material portfolios are just a few types of projects completed by our graduates.
Whether your goal is to become a master practitioner or a system-level leader, the UF Teach Well Ed.S. in special education online program focuses on high-level application.
Students in this program are experienced education professionals with backgrounds in special education, reading, school administration, educational leadership and other fields. The one thing all our students share is the drive to achieve a higher level of impact in the special education field.
