Spotlighting UF’s Bold Leadership in Transforming Learning

Educators, administrators and technology innovators from across Florida gathered May 20-21 at the University of Florida College of Education for a hands-on exploration of artificial intelligence’s rapidly expanding role in the classroom. The AI in Education Fair, hosted at historic Norman Hall, brought together educators, policymakers, researchers and industry leaders to explore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in PreK-12 education.

A Vision for the Future of Learning

Opening Keynote

The event opened with welcome remarks from College of Education Dean Glenn E. Good who noted that UF is leading the pace with the AI revolution, stressing the importance of harnessing AI to benefit teaching and learning responsibly.

“Our mission is bold, to make AI the centerpiece of 21st-century education and the workforce,” said Dean Good. “That means developing and evaluating tools that support teachers, not replace them.”

Across the two-day event, more than 150 participants explored over 30 interactive demos, research sessions, and panels. The event was designed to help attendees experience AI in action and understand both its potential and its limitations in real-world learning environments.

Dashboards for school administrators to make data-informed decisions

Maya Israel, Ph.D., and Roberto Alonso of the Miami-Dade School Board shared insights from the Florida K-12 AI Education Task Force, highlighting real examples of implementation and collaboration across school districts.

Conversations, Collaboration, Capacity-Building

The fair prioritized dialogue around the broader impacts of AI. Presenters tackled questions regarding privacy, data use and equitable access. 

Key topics discussed included:

Balancing personalization with student privacy in AI systems

Identifying and addressing algorithmic biases in classrooms

Ensuring AI benefits all learners, especially those in underrepresented communities

Sessions focused on translating research into action and emphasized scalable solutions tailored to Florida’s unique education landscape. Public school leaders, ed-tech startups, and university researchers came together to strategize how to implement AI tools in ways that increase efficiency and effectiveness.
