We designed our on-campus M.Ed. program for professionals interested in pursuing educational leadership certification in Florida as well as other educational leadership pathways outside the conventional school setting. Blending academic coursework with hands-on, real-world experience, our students gain a comprehensive foundation in leadership principles, equipping them for many leadership roles. Students who take the typical course load can complete the program in just two years.

Our on-campus M.Ed. mirrors our online master’s programs but offers a traditional classroom experience on UF’s main campus.

Program Overview

Our innovative program integrates academic coursework with practitioner-based experience to put theory into action. 36 credit hours are required to complete this master’s program, with the option to pursue educational leadership certification in Florida. Delivered by a team of knowledgeable faculty focused on student success, our coursework integrates practical experience and the latest research, preparing our graduates to be adaptive in the rapidly evolving educational sector.

We offer two tracks within the program: school leadership and systems leadership. Both tracks cover core educational leadership topics, including finance, human resources, instructional leadership, school law, and leadership communication.

Pursue Educational Leadership Certification in Florida with the School Leadership Track

Our students have the option to earn the Florida Principal’s Certification through completion of a curriculum in educational leadership, supervised practice, and the Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE). While educational leadership certification in Florida is required for public school leadership roles, we also prepare students to explore pathways for leadership in private, charter, microschools, and out-of-state environments while enrolled in this program.

Students entering with at least three years of teaching experience are eligible for the certification track. However, those entering with less can transition to the certification track upon completing three years of teaching.

Specialize in Developing Education Areas with the Systems Leadership Track

Professionals interested in pursuing innovative leadership positions outside conventional school environments are a natural fit for our systems leadership track. For systems track graduates, career opportunities can range from leadership positions combining education with artificial intelligence to roles in nonprofit leadership, ed tech, digital transformation, startups focused on educational technology, policy making, and others.

With hands-on learning opportunities, this pathway empowers graduates to shape emerging trends and practices in education.

This track does not include certification for school building leadership roles or educational leadership certification in Florida.
