The Strategic Research Development Office is launching a Virtual Lunch & Learn Series tailored specifically for new and early-career faculty embarking on their research journey at the University of Florida.
Series Overview & Schedule
Each Lunch & Learn session is designed as a concise 50-minute virtual workshop held during UF Class Period 6, from 12:50 PM to 1:40 PM. These sessions offer practical tools, actionable advice, and institutional connections to accelerate faculty grant readiness. Attendees will also receive helpful handouts or other resources from each session.
- Thursday, September 10 | 12:50 PM – 1:40 PM
- Session Theme: External Funding 101
- Overview: Learn about units and mechanisms that support externally funded research at the University of Florida. Participants will also learn about various early career mechanisms and receive helpful worksheets to navigate the funding landscape.
- Monday, October 12 | 12:50 PM – 1:40 PM
- Session Theme: UF Research Institutes as Connectors and a Faculty Resource (Part I)
- Overview: The first of a two-part showcase featuring 3 UF Research Institutes as guest speakers. Learn how these centers serve as interdisciplinary collaboration hubs, provide faculty development resources, and offer internal pilot funding.

- Session Theme: UF Institutes as Connectors and a Faculty Resource (Part II)
- Overview: Part two features 3 institutes under UF Research and the VP of Health Affairs. Learn how these centers serve as interdisciplinary collaboration hubs, provide faculty development resources, and offer internal pilot funding. This session has a Health Sciences emphasis.

- Session Theme: Concept Papers and Contacting Program Officers
- Overview: Learn how to translate your research vision into an effective 1-page concept outline and gain strategies for reaching out to federal program managers to solicit feedback before submitting.
- Wednesday, December 9 | 12:50 PM – 1:40 PM
- Session Theme: From Concept to Submitted Proposal: Tips and Best Practices
- Overview: This session focuses on time management, project management, institutional resources, and lessons learned for faculty interested in submitting their first external grants.
