Dr. Fernando Torre, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, will visit the University of Florida through UNIDOS HSI to foster connections and collaboration across institutions. Dr. Torre specializes in human-computer interaction (HCI) and social computing, with research spanning UI/UX design, behavioral analytics, cross-cultural usability, generative AI, serious games, and digital learning.
As part of his visit, he will present the Engineering Education Seminar, “From Interfaces to Classrooms: An HCI Perspective on Engineering Education,” on Friday, September 11, at 9:35 AM in NSC 520. The seminar will explore how principles from HCI can inform teaching and engineering education, including Dr. Torre’s plans to investigate generative AI roleplay through an upcoming NSF RIEF proposal. The seminar is free and open to all. Graduate students are also invited to meet with Dr. Torre on Wednesday, September 9, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM to discuss his research, share their interests, and explore career pathways.
