UF’s Research Promotion Initiative

UF’s Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing (SCM) encourages submissions from all areas on campus to their Research Promotion Initiative. The competitive award is designed to help researchers connect with a broad audience. SCM awards selected authors $1,000 for use on research-related activities including travel, books, and supplies. Additional resources provided by SCM can be found here. Questions can be directed to Blake Trauschke, UF public relations specialist, at btrauschke@ufl.edu.

New Spencer Foundation Funding Program for Transformative Research in Equity

The Spencer Foundation recently announced a new grant program to support transformative research projects that reconceptualize education systems to achieve equity. In order to foster this kind of transformative research, it is necessary to set up spaces where scholars may work in a variety of innovative ways for the purposes of imagining new educational models at systemic level; interact with researchers, practitioners, community members, policymakers, and others. To do so, the Spencer Foundation will support this work through their new Vision Grants and Transformative Research Grants programs. More information about the programs can be found here.

New Federal Export Control Laws

In 2022, the U.S. Department of Commerce implemented new export control rules on Advanced Computing and Semiconductor Manufacturing Items to the People’s Republic of China (RPC). The resulting restrictions extend to the transfer of technology, software, or other “support” for the fabrication of items in the PRC, also applicable to Hong Kong and Macau. Research, collaborations, tape-out, or fabrication services involving advanced computing, semiconductor, supercomputing, or integrated circuits where there is potential involvement at a facility in the PRC are likely to be affected by the regulations. UF Research Integrity, Security & Compliance (RISC) is reviewing active collaborations and may contact you for additional information. If your research project involves tape-out or fabrication services in the PRC, please contact UF RISC before proceeding further.
