Alan T. Waterman Awardee Lecture: Natalie S. King, Ph.D.: “Show them who you are – uninterrupted: Radical possibilities for fostering identity and community in STEM Education”

Please join the U.S. National Science Foundation on September 28th, 2023, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm ET for a lecture by Dr. Natalie S. King of Georgia State University, a 2023 Alan T. Waterman awardee. During this lecture, Dr. King emphasizes the advancement of Black girls in STEM education and the role of curricula and teacher diversity in promoting equity. Dr. King promotes inclusion in science education through evidence-based STEM education initiatives. Dr. King is a University of Florida alum and was nominated by Dr. Thomasenia Adams for the Waterman award. To register in advance for this lecture please visit here. Alan T. Waterman Award Call for Nominations

The Alan T. Waterman award recognizes determined young researchers who specialize in science and engineering fields supported by NSF. The annual Waterman award for early career engineers and scientist is the nation’s highest honor. Awardee(s) will receive a grant of $1,000,000 over the course of five years for research centering science and engineering disciplines. NSF supports disciplines within biological sciences, computer and information science and engineering, engineering, geoscience, and STEM education. Research Promotion Initiative

The University of Florida’s Research Promotion Initiative is a competitive award designed to help connect UF’s research to a broad audience. To enter your research for consideration, please submit your peer reviewed journal articles, books, literary essays, or scholarly monographs to UF’s Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing by using this link. UF will award $1,000 to authors of selected works for promotion that can be used on research related activities. The Florida Research Data Center is now open!

The Florida Research Data Center (FLRDC), located on UF’s East Campus, fosters a secure environment where researchers can analyze data collected the by the U.S Census Bureau, and federal statistic agencies. Researchers from universities, government agencies, and private institutions will all be able to access information provided through the FLRDC. In order to access this information, researchers are asked to draft a proposal to be submitted to their desired federal agency. Researchers are strongly encouraged to consult with a FLRDC administrator about the content of their research proposal.
