Finding Touchstones:
Remembering the Norman Hall Oak

Honoring The Legacy
Shaping Our Future
The Norman Hall oak tree, a venerable guardian of the University of Florida College of Education, stood steadfast through countless seasons. A witness to the ebb and flow of student life and academic pursuit, it was more than just a tree. The Norman oak was a symbol of community and stability. It was where cherished memories were made — from college-wide celebrations to serene study sessions and even a wedding. Our sudden loss during Hurricane Helene in late September 2024 has left a void in our hearts and our campus landscape.
There is no replacement for a tree of this size, either physically or symbolically. But we are now presented with the opportunity to reflect on what it meant to us and to re-envision the space where it stood. We aim to create a vibrant gathering space that honors our beloved tree’s memory while looking toward the future.
How You Can Help

Share Your Memories
The spirit of the Norman oak will be kept alive through your stories and memories. Whether it was your favorite spot to study, the backdrop to your graduation photos, or just a quiet place to pause and reflect—we want to hear about it. Your shared memories will form a rich tapestry celebrating the tree’s historical significance and personal impact.
