M.Ed.  Application Directions

  1. Apply Online to the University of Florida Graduate School.

  2. In the “Special Program Info” section, select the “Distance Learning Program” check box.

  3. In the “Primary Program” section, please use the following information to ensure your application is routed to the appropriate area:

    1. Degree goal: Masters

    2. Program of study: Curriculum and Instruction

    3. Program specialization: Teacher Leadership for School Improvement (TLSI)

    4. Department contact name: Online-Magdi Castaneda

  4. Be a current, full-time practicing educator. Our program is job-embedded, and we expect you to apply all that you are learning in coursework and collect evidence of implementation. You MUST have a full-time job where you can implement what you are learning for the duration of your graduate program.

  5. GPA of 3.0 or higher. The GPA that matters is your upper division undergraduate GPA (the last 60 credits of your bachelor’s degree) from a recognized, accredited college or university.

  6. A statement of purpose/admission essay. This must be between 250 and 300 words in length. Briefly explain your current position, outline your career goals, and explain how the TLSI program will enable you to reach those goals.

  7. Three letters of recommendation. Ideally, these should come from previous faculty or your current educational supervisor or administrator (principal, AP, district curriculum specialist, coach). Recommendations should be professional, not personal, in nature.

  8. Submit a current resume. Detail your work experience as an educator, including your current school/district, certification area(s), and future job goals (including whether you plan on staying in the PreK-12 environment).

  9. Transcripts (New Students Only). Send official transcripts from all institutions of higher education to the UF Office of Admissions (P.O. Box 114000, 201 Criser Hall, Gainesville, FL 32611-4000).

  10. GRE Scores. The GRE is no longer required for admission to the TLSI program!

  11. For international students. If your degree was not completed in English, submit TOEFL (min: 80 internet-based), IELTS (min: 6), or MELAB (min: 77) scores.

  12. Financial Aid. Explore financial aid options and apply for all that apply to your situation.
