Master of Education in Reading (M.Ed.)
Reading and Literacy Education at the University of Florida offers a Master of Education Degree (M.Ed.) in reading education. Nationally accredited and highly ranked, this program was developed to support practicing teachers promote literacy growth of all PreK-12 students.
Program curriculum is focused on the knowledge and methods teachers need to effectively promote literacy learning and academic achievement among students. Candidates learn evidence-based classroom practices and develop knowledge, skills, strategies, and dispositions for supporting the literacy and language growth of PreK-12 students. Most students complete this 36-credit online degree program within 5 to 6 semesters, taking two courses at a time while working full-time.
Master of education (M.Ed.) in Reading Education is a non-thesis degree requiring completion of a minimum of 36 credit hours of coursework. These courses address the reading standards and competencies developed by relevant professional organizations (e.g., International Literacy Association) and Florida Department of Education. Areas of emphasis include the foundations of reading, the diagnosis and remediation of reading difficulties, reading for English Language Learners, and literacy coaching. In addition, candidates may pursue a variety of electives in language arts, teacher leadership, educational technology, and media and digital literacy.
Candidates are required to complete coursework requirements listed below and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better in their coursework.
