Reading and literacy education at the University of Florida prepares exemplary scholars and teachers who specialize in the teaching and learning of reading, writing and language. These programs contribute to the nationally ranked programs in elementary education, secondary education, and curriculum and instruction.

    Program Offerings

    We offer campus-based Ed.S. and Ph.D. degree programs and online M.Ed., M.A.E. and Ed.D. degree programs in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialty in Reading Education.

    Doctorate Program

    The on-campus Ph.D. program nurtures interdisciplinary scholars solving societal issues, shaping graduates into faculty, researchers, and educational leaders.

    Florida Reading Endorsement Prep 

    Courses

    Florida-certified teachers who want to add a reading endorsement to their credentials can take these courses to fulfill state requirements. Online or on-campus.

    Online M.A.E.

    Master’s Program

    A research-driven, fully online degree for candidates with scholarly goals, culminating in the defense of a thesis or project. Open to qualified international applicants and those for whom Florida reading certification is not a primary objective.

    On-campus M.A.E.

    Masters Program

    A rigorous, campus-based research degree spanning reading, language arts, children’s literature and English as a second language. Research-driven for students interested in pursuing further scholarship.

    Online M.Ed.

    Masters Program

    Nationally accredited and highly ranked, the online M.Ed.. in reading education supports practicing and prospective teachers in advancing their expertise in reading/literacy teaching, learning and assessment.

    Master’s Program

    A campus-based program preparing practicing and prospective teachers to meet the literacy needs of all PreK-12 students. We cover instruction covering foundational reading and writing skills, navigating digital media, primary source documents and more.
