We worked in 20 schools (10 treatment condition; 10 control condition) in Florida and Ohio (FL – 8 schools, 5 districts; OH – 12 schools, 7 districts) involving a total of 158 students.
We have completed all pretest and posttest assessments in the 20 classrooms which included:
In addition, we conducted computerized assessments of executive function using the NIH Toolbox and we collected observer data using Direct Behavior Rating to obtain ratings of student behavior in the classroom for comparison of treatment and control conditions.
We have concluded our social validity assessment (consumer satisfaction) of all I Control implementing teachers, and assessed all control condition teachers about their use of any structured curricula that might be similar to the elements of I Control (i.e., goal setting, emotion control, problem solving) and we have assessed treatment fidelity (was the curriculum delivered as intended) of implementing teachers.
We will spend the first part of the upcoming school year conducting recruitment and assignment to condition, as well as securing informed consent for students to be involved in the Year 2 cohort. We will spend the Fall of Year 2 conducting pre-treatment data collection and professional development for teachers involved in the implementation of I Control and conducting ongoing treatment fidelity. In the second half (Spring & Summer) of Year 2, we will continue to monitor implementation and collect post-treatment data collection, engage in data preparation, and conduct our statistical analyses.
