COE Student Ice Cream Social – Thursday, September 28
All College of Education Students, please join us on Thursday, September 28th from 2:45-4:00pm in the Norman Hall Courtyard for free ice cream, giveaways, and a chance to win an iPad mini!


Collier County Public Schools – Teacher Interview Day – Friday, October 6
The School District of Collier County will be hosting a Teacher Interview Day on October 6, 2017 at the CCPS Administration Building form 8:30 am to 12:00 pm.

The District serves more than 47,000 total students in 29 elementary schools, 10 middle schools, 8 high schools, and a PreK-thru-12 school (Everglades City School). There are also 13 Alternative School Programs.  The District employs approximately 3,200 highly qualified teachers, 49% with advanced degrees.

For many of our students, English is not the first language for 14% of our students with more than 6,600 (PreK-12) students in the English Language Learners (ELL) program. Collectively, these students speak 85 different heritage languages and hail from 121 different countries of origin. More than 52% of our students live in non-English homes, where English is not the first language and sometimes isn’t even spoken.

CCPS is actively recruiting English, Science, Math, and ESE educators from throughout the state, and we would welcome the opportunity to connect with your students. Schools 3.0: When Pedagogy and Technology Join Forces – Tuesday, October 10
The Educational Technology Program Area will be hosting an upcoming guest speaker and interactive graduate student luncheon with Dr. Lynne Schrum. The luncheon sponsored by the UF Research Foundation Professorship will be held at Norman Hall in the Terrace Room (G-400) on October 10, 2017 from 11am- 1pm with the presentation beginning at 3pm. Graduate students interested in attending the luncheon should RSVP to Jiahui Wang (jwang01@ufl.edu) by October 6, 2017.

Dr. Schrum has been an editor of a flagship journal in her respected field for many years. We encourage you to attend the interactive luncheon and presentation with Dr. Schrum to learn about the publishing process and developments in pedagogy and technology. Further details here.

Harn Museum of Art Internships Spring 2018 – applications due October 15
The Harn Museum is now accepting applications for spring interns. Harn internships are open to all majors with the goal of providing professional experience, growth opportunities and guidance from museum staff. This spring, the Harn will offer 4 projects within our Education department. Interns have gone on to careers at institutions such as the Guggenheim, Christie’s Auction House, the Art Institute of Chicago, Macy’s and Yale University.

The Oak Tree After-school Enrichment Volunteer Opportunity
The Oak Tree Early Learning Academy After-school Enrichment program serves students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. We provide a safe enriching  and stimulating after-school environment that focuses on Homework Help, Tutoring, and high performance strategies to help students achieve their highest potential academically, socially and emotionally. Our enrichment focus is on Literacy, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.  We work in partnership with parents and

Children Beyond Our Borders Volunteer Opportunity
The UF chapter of Children Beyond Our Borders Inc. (CBOB) was founded in 2003 and since then has grown and laid the framework for the nonprofit organization CBOB, established in 2007. Throughout each school year, the members of the UF chapter of CBOB raise awareness on campus and throughout Gainesville regarding child poverty, social injustice and internal displacement. Members also participate in fundraising for special projects and help organize CBOB’s annual service trips to Colombia.

One of our programs is offering tutoring services here in Gainesville to children between the ages of 8-13 and we are desperately in need of volunteers! Details available here and on the CBOB Facebook page.


Best Buddies
Best Buddies International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

The UF Chapter of Best Buddies focuses on making the Gainesville community more inclusive by creating mutually enriching friendships and hosting two fun events per month.  Please email ufbestbuddies@gmail.com for more information!

Childcare – Tutoring

BABYSITTER NEEDED
Seeking a responsible and energetic babysitter for my 3-year-old son on Fridays (mid-morning to afternoon time, can be flexible). Position starts immediately. We are open to only doing some Fridays if the sitter is not available every Friday, and in fact there are some Fridays on which we will not need a sitter at all. We live in the NW part of town off Millhopper. Requirements: Good references, non-smoker, and reliable transportation to and from our house (we can assist with Uber if needed). Duties: entertain a fun-loving and active little boy! We just want someone to keep him happy and safe at the house/in the neighborhood for a 4-5 hour window on Fridays.

UF Community Tutoring Program
UF is proud to offer resources like Tutor Matching Service to provide supplemental one-on-one tutoring to students. As a courtesy to students seeking individual assistance for students, the University of Florida provides a link to Tutor Matching Service (TMS) where students can register to receive private tutoring for payment. Students with academic aptitude in a given subject or subjects may also sign up to become a tutor as part of this service.  Tutoring can take place in person or online through the digital GoBoard system depending on the preferences and abilities of the tutor and tutee. Tutor Needed
Family, originally from China, is offering a paid opportunity for one or more students who’s native language is English to assist an 10 year old boy on the autism spectrum in  Math  as tutor at home or home school in Gainesville. (Experience with elementary education or special education students is desirable, but not necessary.)
