Social Justice Summit | (Re)imagining Educational Spaces
We invite you to this year’s UF Social Justice Summit (SJS) which will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2020, in the Reitz Union Rion Ballroom. The SJS summit will be co-sponsored by the College of Education and the Disability Resource Center. Given the work of the COE and DRC, the summit theme was selected to be: (Re)imagining Educational Spaces. The summit was designed with the intention of facilitating learning opportunities to better understand inequities in schools. We aim to discuss the experience of marginalized learners and imagine how we can collectively transform education. Educators, students, and learners across contexts are invited to attend.

Vineyard Afterschool Literacy Program
Description: Gainesville Thrives is currently seeking recreation leader volunteers for the Vineyard Afterschool Literacy Program. Recreation leaders would play basketball, play games, do arts and crafts, practice math facts, or read a book with children who are waiting for their turn to go to tutoring.
When: The schedule would be Mondays and Fridays from 2-3:30 or 3:30-5, and Wednesdays from 12:45-2:15 or 2:15-3:45. While volunteers can choose any time that works for them, the most needed times are Mondays and Wednesdays.

Words on Canvas: The Harn Museum’s Spring 2020 Writing Competition
Would you like a chance to have your poetry or prose featured in the Harn Museum of Art? Here’s your opportunity to write yourself into the museum! Words on Canvas is an annual writing competition open to all UF and SFC students who find inspiration in art. Writers will choose one of 28 artworks and submit a poem or prose piece inspired by it. Winning submissions will then be featured in the Harn’s Words on Canvas booklet and will garner prizes from the Harn gift shop! The program is supported by UF Honors Program. Campus Movie Fest
Campus Movie Fest (CMF) is heading back to the University of Florida! The 2019-2020 CMF tour is headed to over 50 colleges and universities around the U.S., giving students everywhere the equipment, training, and opportunity to share their stories on film. CMF at UF launches on January 29th. Students have one week, until February 4th, to make their best possible five-minute film. The CMF Tour staff provides training, support, and of course, amazing equipment, including a laptop loaded with creative software, a Panasonic HD camera, and sound gear. What’s the catch? There isn’t one! Thanks to CMF’s partners, participation is completely free for students. More than one million students have participated in CMF since it began in 2001. Assistant Learning Specialist Internship
Description: The Otis Hawkins Center seeks two Assistant Learning Specialist for a paid two-year internship. The internship is intended to provide a practical, hands-on experience in the area of Learning Services Support for Student-Athletes while pursuing a graduate degree at University of Florida. The Learning Services Program provides academic support and assistance for at-risk student-athletes at the University of Florida. The intern will: work with student-athletes with learning disabilities and ADD/ADHD; orient new student-athletes to the Disability Resource Center’s programs; assist in screening evaluations and referrals for assessment of learning disabilities; offer learning strategies; and refer students to appropriate campus resources. The intern will provide professional level support and programs to student-athletes in accordance with the regulations of UF, the SEC, the NCAA, Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Description: Volunteers needed for The Howard Bishop Middle School Science Night! On Thursday, February 6, HOWARD BISHOP MIDDLE SCHOOL is hosting its fifth annual Family Science Night. Resilience Charter School Tutors & Mentors
Who We Are: Resilience Charter is a small public middle school in Gainesville. The founding principles are innovation, social justice, and environmental stewardship. The school serves a diverse population with over 65% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. In order to provide the students with more equitable opportunities, the school strives to build a supportive and engaging learning environment through project based learning, social emotional learning, immersive technologies, and authentic relationships with students.
Needs: We are seeking volunteers to work with students in the classroom and during after-school tutoring. Volunteers will build relationships with teachers and students and will assist students in completing their schoolwork.
Job Schedule: Tutors and mentors are needed at various times from 9:00-4:30 on Mondays-Fridays. Volunteers may choose their weekly amount of hours. Students may record their hours for course credit or community service.

Disability Resource Expo Volunteers
Description: The Disability Resource Expo is a free event which provides opportunities for parents and professionals to connect and discover many of the wonderful resources available in Alachua County and surrounding areas.
We are looking for positive individuals to help with vendor sign-in and set-up (E.g. assistance with carrying tables, chairs, and finding designated set up area,) hanging banners, directing attendees, roaming and observing inside and out during the event to assist people and pick up trash as needed. After the event we will need volunteers to assist with break-down of booths, assist vendors in returning to their vehicles, pulling down banners and signs and storing them for future use, as well as trash and general clean up inside and out.
We will sign your volunteer forms! Bring your volunteer credit forms or let us know prior to the event and we will provide forms for you. If you need a form, please make a note in the comments section provided when signing up.
