Each semester, my undergraduate research methods students undertake an original data collection research project focused on improving the justice system. This semester, we are examining police—community interactions by exploring perceptions of undergraduate students on campus police sponsored outreach events. The study has been approved by the UF IRB (IRB202100354) and my students plan to present their findings to UF police at the end of the semester. The John Lewis Social Justice Advocacy Film Competition
A short documentary film competition is being held in honor of the late civil rights warrior, John Lewis, and in recognition of the law student community’s commitment to justice and equality under the law. Films may be submitted in a group or solo – only one video per group. A $500 prize will be awarded to the winning film!
Each film should be about a social justice issue the student believes is important. The film should run approximately ten minutes and should be targeted towards educating the public about the chosen issue or educating a particular marginalized group about their rights under the law. Make a storyboard and use your smartphone to make the video. To register, email your name(s) and email addresses to Professor Michelle Jacobs, jacobsm@law.ufl.edu, titling the email “Film Contest”. Everyone who registers will receive a list of resources. Participants must register by March 15, 2021. The final video will be due on April 19.
NSF Fellowships for the MMLDT-CSET Conference and Short Courses
NSF Fellowships will be available to support undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and high school teachers to attend the MMLDT-CSET Conference and Short Courses. High school students are free to attend the short course and participate in the 3-day specially designed sessions. Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowships
Description: The Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) Fellowship Program provides opportunities for doctoral candidates to engage in full-time dissertation research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies. The program is designed to deepen research knowledge and increase the study of modern foreign languages, cultural engagement, and area studies not generally included in U.S. curricula.
Program Features: Students may request funding to support overseas research for a period of no less than six months and no more than 12 months. Funds support travel expenses to and from the residence of the fellow and the country or countries of research; maintenance and dependent allowances based on the location of research for the fellow and his or her dependent(s); an allowance for research-related expenses overseas; and health and accident insurance premiums. Camp Laurel South Summer Camp
About Camp Laurel South: Camp Laurel South is located near Portland, Maine in the heart of the Sebago Lakes Region. Its 150 unspoiled acres include woodlands, sports fields and open lawns. It’s location in the southern part of Maine makes Laurel South a most inviting summer retreat for campers and counselors alike. Each summer, Laurel South operates two four-week programs with 400 boys and girls, ages 7 to 15 in each session. They come from all over the U.S. as well as several foreign countries. The return rate for both campers and staff is very high.
Description: Camp Laurel South is a residential summer camp in Maine seeking college athletes to be activity instructors and camp counselors for the summer of 2021. This is a great summer experience that can fulfill many internship requirements. We look for people with personality, character, maturity, professional training, experience and most importantly, a sincere desire to work with children. Our counselor to camper ratio is better than 1:3.

Description: This internship is intended to give undergraduate students at UF an opportunity for real-world experience in education and/or extension activities. Selected students will work alongside local K-12 youth from Cedar Key School. The hosts include UF/IFAS faculty as well as Cedar Key K-12 educators. Interns will participate in a summer wrap- up workshop where interns will summarize their experiences. This is a great opportunity for students to enhance their skill sets and explore career options in educational natural resource fields. This internship is open to current undergraduates from the College of Education, University of Florida.
Pay Rate: This internship is 240 paid work hours for a total of six weeks, and interns are paid $12.00 per hour for up to 40 hours a week.

Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program
Description: The Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program Collaborative is a two-year conservation training program for undergraduates who are interested in careers in conservation and in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field. Scholars take part in applied field research projects (1st Summer – 2021), professional internships (2nd Summer – 2022), mentoring, and form strong professional networks that span the country (and beyond). Florida Elks Summer Camp
Description: Florida Elks Youth Summer Camp is hiring staff members and camp counselors! This summer program will go from June 13th 2021 to August 7th 2021. By working here at camp, students become eligible to apply for the Van Duren scholarship. Students must continue working here to receive the scholarship. Awards are between $1,000 and $5,000 a year. We are a residential camp and staff stay here on property while campers are here. Campers are 9-13.
