The University of Florida’s College of Education is launching a new online course that’s novel both for its content and because it’s free and open to educators across the globe.

The event starts at 12:30 with food and musical entertainment with an international flair, with the formal program beginning at 1 p.m. The program, facilitated by Ester de Jong, associate professor of ESOL and bilingual education, features three panel discussions—two comprised of students and one of faculty.
While some are pessimistic about iPad’s usefulness in the classroom, others, such as UF COE Professor Dorene Ross, is quoted in this Alligator article as saying she believes the iPad may have a place in academia.
In a story headlined “E-books get mixed reviews on campus,” Associate Professor Cathy Cavanaugh was quoted as saying she encouraged the incorporation of e-texts into the learning experience. “I’m not advocating for an automated course experience,” she said. “But society is moving toward e-texts and it makes sense.”
