Major: Chemistry

Minor: UF Teach Science

 Graduate: 2013

Amber Pettit is recent graduate from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. She graduated May 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a minor in UFTeach Science. Through this minor, she has interned at a local high school in Gainesville, Buchholz High School, by teaching a chemistry honors class two periods a day and assisted other students and teachers in the UFTeach classrooms through peer mentoring. Amber has also done peer mentoring for an Intro to Chemistry course, where she graded homework, proctored exams, and assisted student understanding. In her time at UF, she has volunteered with the chemistry club to do experiments and teach lessons to students in elementary school and to tutor students at the University of Florida for general chemistry courses.  She has a strong desire to teach in order to make a difference in students’ lives and actually get them interested in science. In her internship, she had a few students who personally thanked her for taking the time to actually help them understand chemistry. She owes many thanks to the Noyce Program because it has provided her with a great financial stability that has aided her in her teacher preparation, which includes her coursework and daily expenses.
