AERA Grants Program – currently accepting proposals for both Dissertation and Research Grants
AERA Dissertation Grants – AERA provides dissertation support for advanced doctoral students to undertake doctoral dissertations using data from the large-scale national or international data sets supported by the NCES, NSF, and/or other federal agencies. The selection process is competitive. AERA Dissertation Grants are awarded for one-year for an amount of up to $20,000. The next application deadline is Friday, September 15, 2017.

AERA Research Grants – AERA provides small grants for faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, and other doctoral-level scholars to undertake quantitative research using data from the large-scale national or international data sets supported by the NCES, NSF, and/or other federal agencies. The selection process is competitive. AERA Research Grants are awarded for one or two years, for an amount of up to $35,000. The next application deadline is Friday, September 15, 2017.

Student Alliance of Graduates in Education (SAGE) is a student-led organization with a mission to serve as an academic, professional, and social support group for graduate students in the College of Education. All graduate students within our three schools (STL, HDOSE, & SESPECS) are welcome and encouraged to attend any or all social and academic events throughout the school year.

Please mark your calendars for the following Back to School events, taking place on August 16th (during and after the STL Graduate School orientations) and on August 18th (during the HDOSE and SESPECS Graduate School orientations).

1.     Tours of Norman Hall and the Education Library
Tours will be offered at the following times on August 16th:
2:00 – 2:30 pm
2:30 – 3:00 pm
3:00 – 3:30 pm
3:30 – 4:00 pm
Tours will be offered at the following times on August 18th:
12:00 – 12:30 pm
12:30 – 1:00 pm
1:00 – 1:30 pm

·         If you are interested in receiving a tour, please arrive to the Norman Courtyard 5 minutes prior to the start time that is most convenient for you. Our tour guides will have a SAGE sign to help you find the group.
·         If you are a current graduate student in the College of Education and you are interested in helping give tours to incoming students, please sign up for a time using this doodle poll. Your help with this key event will be much appreciated!

2.     Back to School Social:
Following the orientation, SAGE will be celebrating the start to a new school year at our annual Back to School Social! This is a great opportunity for returning students to reconnect with friends and for new students to meet others within the college. This year, the party will be held at World of Beer (3265 SW 34th st.) from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Appetizers will be provided and Happy Hour specials are from 3-7 pm. See attached flyer for more details! We hope to see everyone there!

Education Library Closure Spring 2018 – Tentative Closure: December 16, 2017
The Education Library will be closed starting Spring 2018 due to renovations of the library area. We encourage faculty, students, and staff to prepare for the Spring 2018 closure by checking out resources and materials needed from the Education Library during the Fall 2017 semester. College Reach-out Program (CROP)
Employment opportunities are available for qualified UF students to tutor and mentor middle and high school students.
·         Salary is $10.50 per hour.  Tutors will work 12-15 hours per week from approximately 3 pm to 6 pm.  Tutoring sites are on campus and in the community at Reichert House and Howard Bishop Middle School.
·         Related duties include occasional test prep sessions, parent meetings, and field trips.
·         Each tutor will have a small core group of families to maintain contact with and update information on grades, etc.

Student Assistant  – UF College of Education
The College of Education Business Office is seeking an undergraduate student assistant to provide clerical and administrative support for the Fall 2017 & Spring 2018 semesters. Duties will include but not be limited to: document sorting and distribution, data entry, document imaging, filing and making copies, and providing excellent customer service. Interested applicants must have unmet financial aid need, availability to work 10-15 hours per week Mon.-Fri., and be enrolled at least ½ time for the fall and spring semester. Fall Interns Needed – Alachua Conservation Trust
Looking for creative and motivated students for August 29th – December 5th (week day schedule TBD) from UF or Santa Fe College that need experience working with a small local nonprofit.

Interns will help:
– develop, market and manage ACT’s annual Halloween Party
– run ACT’s “Rise up for the Santa Fe River” campaign
– prepare materials for the opening of Santa Fe River Preserve

YMCA Afterschool Program
The North Central Florida YMCA is looking for enthusiastic and energetic students who would love an opportunity to work with students age 5-15.  Our afterschool program is starting on August 14th and we need counselors who are ready to gain vital experience working with children, while also building their leadership skills.

My friend and I are looking to share a caregiver for my 22 month old son and her 24 month old daughter. They’ve been sharing care for over a year and get along splendidly.

Here are the basis of what we’re looking for/offering:

*2 mornings/week, 8:30-12:30 (days flexible pending each term’s schedule)

Reading Coach
I am looking for a reading coach for my seven year old son.  He is going into the second grade and was just diagnosed with a reading convergence and tracking issue. We are working with an Ophthalmologist to get the issue corrected.  I would like to give him a push in the right direction with strengthening his skills in reading.
