The newly renovated Education Library is now open!

Reserve Group Study Rooms — http://cms.uflib.ufl.edu/studyroom

  • Rooms can be reserved for groups which must contain at least 2 people
  • If not in use, rooms can be used by individuals or groups on a fist come, first served basis
  • Quiet conversation are allowed however, rooms are not sound proof
  • No food allowed in group study rooms

Focus Group opportunity for Graduate Students on Spanish and English materials
We are holding a focus group session for graduate students in the Nygren Studio (Library West 212) on September 4th, from 1-2:30pm to discuss their research practices with materials in Spanish and English. Interested Graduate Students please RSVP via the google form, or by emailing Laura.spears@ufl.edu by September 1st.   This will be a great opportunity for graduate students to meet many people in the Libraries, and to share and learn about research practices for creating improved supports for everyone.  Graduate students do not need additional expertise/experience for this. We are looking to get their feedback in an open-ended discussion. This will be a very fun and productive time!

Students: Register for LeadUF Today! 
LeadUF, hosted by the David & Wanda Brown Center for Leadership & Service, is a 4 week foundational leadership development experience that includes an overnight retreat and several meetings. LeadUF allows you to build personal skills and understanding, become a leader on campus, and connect with other students. This unique, limited access experience is ideal for 1st and 2nd year students. Registration is OPEN and will close when space is full. Student Assistant position in the College of Education
The College of Education, School of Teaching and Learning is seeking an undergraduate student assistant to provide clerical and administrative support fall 2018 & spring 2019 semesters. Duties will include but not be limited to: document sorting and distribution, data entry, document imaging, filing and making copies, and providing excellent customer service. Interested applicants must have unmet financial aid need, availability to work 10-15 hours per week Mon.-Fri., and be enrolled at least 1/2 time for the fall and spring semester. Development Specialist – Jacksonville, FL

AmeriCorps VISTA positions
Marion County Public Schools is looking for innovative ways to engage at-risk and/or under-performing elementary school students. The Marion County VISTA project develops a sustainable volunteer recruitment and management system to provide tutors from Mario County High Schools for students that are targeted as low reading test scores in order to boost school attendance, decrease negative student behavior, improve academic performance and school readiness, and increase reading test scores. In addition, AmeriCorps VISTA has numerous programs all over Florida for students approaching the end of the bachelor’s or master’s or just taking a break from school. The education award at the end of one year of service is approximately $6k (slightly over), and the living allowance in most Florida counties is $472.22 bi-weekly. Anita Zucker Center for Excellence in Early Childhood Studies
Position available for a Spanish speaking bi-lingual advanced undergraduate or graduate student to assist with activities for a project providing professional development for early intervention providers serving infants and toddlers with or at risk for disabilities. The professional development is focused on providers coaching families to implement practices to support the social-emotional development of their infants and toddlers.  This student would assist the Project Coordinator with preparing materials for professional development workshops and meetings, data entry, and data processing. The position is an hourly position that is available immediately with the opportunity to continue the work through next year. Availability for 20 hours per week is preferred. Students will be paid $12-$15/hour, depending on experience. The position includes a brief orientation and training and ongoing supervision by a project coordinator. This is an excellent opportunity for students who are interested in professional development, coaching, or instructional approaches in early childhood and would like to gain experience in funded projects. Aces in Motion (AIM)
Aces in Motion (AIM), a nonprofit after-school outreach program, is seeking volunteers to serve as mentors, tutors, and most importantly role models for our middle and high school students. Volunteer at GiGi’s Playhouse: Down Syndrome Achievement Center!
If you’d like to gain experience working with children with special needs, you may be interested in this volunteering opportunity! GiGi’s Playhouse is a Down Syndrome Achievement Center that offers free programs for participants with Down syndrome and their families!

While the programs consist of singing, dancing, fun activities, and playtime, they all have an educational and therapeutic focus. Whether working on social skills, motor skills, speech and language, reading, or just simple peer interaction, it is all purposeful fun!

GiGi’s Playhouse program sessions are mostly on Saturdays and Sundays, and you would be able to choose whichever program sessions work for your schedule. March of Dimes Collegiate Council, formerly Gators March for Babies
Our organization works to support the mission of the March of Dimes as they lead the fight for the health of all moms and babies. They are working radically to improve the health care moms and babies receive, while pioneering research to find solutions to the problems faced by both. In this country, 1 in 10 babies is born prematurely each year and the societal costs of this premature birth is more than $26 billion per year. Tutor Needed
Can you help sharpen my son’s skills? In need of a tutor for a nine year old boy who is in the 4th grade and embarrassed to ask for help. He is having a hard time in Math, English/Language Arts, and Reading Comprehension. Micanopy Tutoring – with Friends of the Library
Tutors needed for 1-on-1 tutoring with at-risk elementary through high school students one to four afternoons per week. Micanopy Library is located 15 to 20 minutes south of campus. Volunteers are also welcome. This is an Alachua County/United Way funded program.

Unity Family Community Center Tutor Position

Interlachen High School – Tutors Needed
Interlachen High School is in need of tutors! Our district will be implementing the amazing AVID curriculum and a large piece of this is that students are able to meet in small groups on Tuesdays and Thursday to get that extra help with difficult material. Tutors will go through a background check, training process, and must be able to commit to 2 days every week for 2-3 hours each day. Compensation is available at a rate of 15.00/hour. America Reads is one of the preeminent federal community service programs in the country. Its mission? To mobilize an army of trained reading tutors to help children become successful, independent readers. Our tutors play a critical role in elementary schools and community centers throughout Gainesville. They partner with teachers to support reading instruction. They work one-on-one with children who are struggling to learn. They run small-group tutoring sessions. They inspire a love of books and reading in their students.
