Course Announcement: EDG 6931 Theorizing Race & Racism in Educational Research with Dr. Christopher Busey

Drawing from diverse and global theorizations of race, this primer course aims to 1) explore several critical theorizations of race that are prominently featured and in some cases neglected in educational research; 2) trace the socio-historical foundations and transnational parallels of several theorizations of race; and 3) draw from our developing understandings of theories of race and racism to frame educational inequities. Tomorrow’s Youth Organization Internship

Application Deadline: July 22, 2019

Tomorrow’s Youth Organization, an American nonprofit working with disadvantaged communities in Palestine, is currently recruiting international interns for a three-month internship from mid-September until mid-December! The application deadline is July 22nd, 2019.

This internship, based in the West Bank city of Nablus, offers students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain international working experience and develop professional and intercultural skills. More information about the internship and application guidelines can be found on our Idealist page.

Kids Count Program Assistant

Hourly Position: Expectation is 22 to 25 hours per week, with an average of 23.5 hrs./wk.
Wage: $12 – $15 / hour.
Starting Date: July 29, 2019 (two weeks prior to first day of Alachua County schools).

Kids Count in Alachua County, Inc. is looking for a Program Assistant to serve as director of the Kids Count program held at Faith Mission serving students from Rawlings Elementary and Duval Early Learning Academy. Program Assistant will as assistant to director of the Kids Count at either Rawlings or Metcalfe after school program.

The program Assistant will assist Program Director (PD) at Rawlings/Metcalfe program, each serving 30 children grades K-3, supervise students and assist in planning after school program sessions Monday through Friday, help coordinate the planning of Friday enrichment activities, manage and supervise volunteers, perform regular documentation such as attendance, dismissal, and contact information, clean up the building at the end of the day (students may help).

Kids Count Program Director

Hourly Position: Salary position, with the expectation to average 30 hours/week.
Wage: Salary of $18,000-$24,000 dependent upon experience.
Starting Date: July 29, 2019 (two weeks prior to first day of Alachua County schools).

Kids Count in Alachua County, Inc. is looking for a Program Director to serve as director of the Kids Count program held at Faith Mission serving students from Rawlings Elementary and Duval Early Learning Academy.

Director of the Kids Count site at the Faith Mission, serving 30 children grades K-3 will: supervise and execute after school program sessions daily, plan and coordinate all program activities, maintain a safe, nurturing, orderly environment, direct and supervise program assistants in coordination with executive director, and collaborate with the Program Director/Curriculum Coordinator at the Metcalfe Site and the Executive Director. BA or BS degree, preferably in the field of education. Successful completion of 40 hours on-line training in accordance with Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) regulations for school-age children (can obtain once hired).

LiFT Educational Academy Teacher Positions

LiFT Educational Academy, What’s On Your Mind, Inc is a small private school in South Florida. We are looking for to fill several teacher positions for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.

Performance responsibilities include:

  • creates and implements individualized curriculum and observes readers in the classroom
  • assists in the selection of appropriate materials utilized for corrective measures
  • provides demonstrations of new methods and materials (i.e. team teaching)
  • responsible for maintaining the literature collection
  • plans and conducts periodic students’ evaluations to assess the need for changes in the reading program
  • plans and develops special reading projects as approved or provided
  • ensures that reading is a component of the K-8 Language Arts assesses students to record and monitor student’s progress throughout the school year
  • provide for remedial instructional needs of students K-8 through collaboration with staff and small group instruction with reading strategies.

Splash Pals Adapted Aquatics Volunteers

Splash Pals at NCF provides an aquatic activity program for children with physical and developmental disabilities, focused on swimming, exercise, social interaction, and play. We work with various disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, down syndrome, muscular dystrophy, and others. It’s a great environment where student members learn about and gain meaningful experience working with children with these disabilities.

Balance 180 6th Annual Summer Camp Volunteers

Volunteers needed for Balance 180’s summer camp from July 15 – August 2! Volunteers can join in the morning from 8:00am-12:30pm or in the afternoon from 12:30pm-5:30pm; however, these times can be adjusted to the volunteer’s schedule! No gymnastics experience is required to volunteer. Volunteers can sign up for any week or specific days: whatever works for your schedule! Most help is needed in the mornings.

Adaptive Gymnastics Class Volunteers

Volunteers needed for gymnastics class until August 3! This is a gymnastics class that is specifically designed for children with varying abilities. We set up the gym in 4 rotations, including vault, floor, beam, and bars, so that our athletes can work on a variety of motor skills.
