UF in Cuba | Summer 2020 FAS 4932/FAS 6932
UF in Cuba will give you a hands-on understanding of the coastal & island ecosystems of central & southern Cuba, the impacts of human land-use activities on ecological communities, and an introduction to Cuban history & culture. The program will begin on campus prior to departure with an ecosystem introduction and planning meeting to prepare for the intensive 13-day program. This meeting will be recorded so students not in Gainesville prior to departure can participate. Marcus Autism Center Research Assistant
Research Assistant for the Marcus Autism Center Pediatric Neuroimaging Research Program:
The Marcus Autism Center is hiring a Research Assistant within the Pediatric Neuroimaging Research Core. This position is for Bachelor-level or above applicants who have prior experience working in a clinical and/or research environment. Successful applicants will engage in two years of clinical and research experiences through various longitudinal MRI studies of infants at high and low-risk for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and through an MRI study of participants with 3q29 deletion. The primary responsibilities of the Research Assistant will be collecting MRI and eye-tracking data from infants and children, conducting clinical assessments on these participants, data entry and management, and consenting, scheduling, and hosting families who participate in our studies. The Research Assistant will also have the opportunity to attend events such as autism grand rounds meetings (twice a month), our summer-intensive training seminar covering clinical research in autism (one week), and weekly lab meetings. Strong consideration will be given to candidates who have previous experience with infants or young children with autism and who are interested in research operations and neuroimaging research.

Marcus Autism Center Fellowships
Description: The Marcus Autism Center, in conjunction with the Emory University School of Medicine and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, is offering four fellowships: the Cohen Fellowship in Developmental Social Neuroscience, the Simons Fellowship in Computational Neuroscience, the Education Sciences Fellowship, and the Marcus Fellowship in Speech Science and Engineering. Students who will receive a bachelor’s degree by June 2020 will be eligible for the positions. The fellowships will commence in July 2020, and they are 2 years in duration. Positions:
- The Cohen Fellowship in Developmental Social Neuroscience will involve cutting-edge social neuroscience research in infants, toddlers and adolescents. Fellows will work to further the understanding of autism through eye-tracking research, guiding a project from the point of data collection to publication of results.
- The Simons Fellowship in Computational Neuroscience will involve integrating computational strategies with clinical research goals. Fellows will develop methods for the analysis of visual scanning and eye-tracking data, computational models of visual salience, and data visualization techniques, all with the aim of advancing the understanding of autism and efforts at early diagnosis.
- TheEducation Sciences Fellowship will involve research in educational innovations in autism, from early child care through high school. Fellows will learn about classroom-based interventions to increase social emotional engagement and inclusion, gaining experiences with observational research methods, cutting-edge intervention research, and implementation science approaches.
- The Marcus Fellowship in Speech Science and Engineering will involve researching early vocal development, including speech production and speech perception, as part of a program to map out both typical and atypical development of spoken communication in early childhood.

Cade Museum Outreach Intern

Schedule | 10-15 hours/week, between 9am and 5pm Monday-Friday. May require occasional evening or weekend hours.
The Cade Museum for Creativity & Invention is looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and committed intern to assist with all aspects of the museum’s STEAM-based educational outreach programs. This internship will provide the student with real-world experience in outreach program development, delivery, and evaluation. The position involves administrative and research tasks, as well as direct interaction with children of all ages in museum, school, and community settings.
Internship Duties
- Assist Outreach Coordinator with planning, set-up, and breakdown of program events
- Assist Outreach Coordinator and other Museum Educators with facilitation of outreach classes and school visits
- Assist with data tracking and entry, filing, and other administrative tasks
- Special projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Comfortable interacting with preschool-aged and elementary school-aged children
- Must be highly organized and detail-oriented
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, preferred
