UF’s Black Campus Movement | Virtual Exhibit
On April 15, 1971, the Black Student Union (BSU) organized a sit-in at Tigert Hall. Seventy students peacefully marched into President Stephen O’Connell’s office with a list of demands. The students wanted the University to address the shortage of Black faculty and students at UF. Their peaceful demonstration was met with resistance and led to the arrest and suspension of 66 Black students. This day became known as Black Thursday and led to the founding of the Institute for Black Culture (IBC) and the Office of Minority Student Affairs at the University of Florida. To learn more, please see the exhibit here: http://exhibits.uflib.ufl.edu/BlackThursdayUF/

CogniTutor
About CogniTutor: We interview tutors, let them know what an independent contractor is and the responsibilities that come with it, and train hired tutors. We match students to tutors based on what is most convenient for all of them (including tutors’ expertise, availability, location, etc.). Tutor meets with the student and fills out a session report saying what happened during the session. This report is sent to students and is used to pay the tutors. We continually manage/train tutors and help them learn. We also give them more opportunities such as the possibility of receiving a letter of recommendation, the ability to move up in the company, and a good way to make money while using what they are learning to give back to the community.
Description: Interested in making $18 per hour? While working with CogniTutor, LLC, you choose your own working times, get training on how to tutor effectively, and are matched with students based on location, expertise, and availability. What’s more, you get the chance to receive more experience and a manager who may be able to write a letter of recommendation for your future endeavors. You will tutor students, keep up your schedule on our calendar, and submit session reports after the session.
Application: Contact Katie at Katie@CogniTutor.com with your resume, GPA, major, SAT/ACT scores, and if you have reliable transportation or apply online at CogniTutor.
