UF’s Black Campus Movement | Virtual Exhibit
On April 15, 1971, the Black Student Union (BSU) organized a sit-in at Tigert Hall. Seventy students peacefully marched into President Stephen O’Connell’s office with a list of demands. The students wanted the University to address the shortage of Black faculty and students at UF. Their peaceful demonstration was met with resistance and led to the arrest and suspension of 66 Black students. This day became known as Black Thursday and led to the founding of the Institute for Black Culture (IBC) and the Office of Minority Student Affairs at the University of Florida. If schools or classrooms are closed, hours are negotiable and could include a 9 – 5 schedule or whatever works best for both of us!

CogniTutor
About CogniTutor: We interview tutors, let them know what an independent contractor is and the responsibilities that come with it, and train hired tutors. We match students to tutors based on what is most convenient for all of them (including tutors’ expertise, availability, location, etc.).
