Alachua County Crisis Center – Crisis intervention and counseling resources including 24-hour crisis phone lines (352-264-6789), Suicide hotlines (800-SUICIDE; 800-784-2433) and free face-to-face short term counseling services.
Baker Act Information, Forms and Free Online Training – Florida law permits a mental health professional, law enforcement officer, or judge who issues an ex parte order to initiate an involuntary examination only when there is reason to believe that he or she is mentally ill and without care or treatment, the person is likely to suffer from neglect or refuse to care for himself or herself which poses a real and present threat of substantial harm to his or her well-being. Gainesville Addiction Recovery Centers– The mission is to connect people and their families with the information and resources to help them recover from substance abuse and behavioral disorders. They are a private resource and do not receive funding from any state or government programs, working instead with some of the country’s most respected treatment organizations who support and sponsor their efforts.
Marchman Act Information and User Reference Guide – Good faith reason to believe person is substance abuse impaired and because of the impairment has lost power of self-control over substance use; and either has inflicted, or threatened or attempted to inflict, or unless admitted is likely to inflict, physical harm on self or others, or is in need of substance abuse services and, by reason of substance abuse impairment, his/her judgment has been so impaired the person is incapable of appreciating the need for services and of making a rational decision in regard thereto.(Mere refusal to receive services not evidence of lack of judgment).
