UF Insect Knowledge Survey
This survey is an invitation to participate in research about your knowledge of insects. Why insects? Do you love butterflies and honeybees, but fear cockroaches and spiders? You are not alone, but not everyone shares your feelings. If you have ever wondered why people have such strong feelings about certain animals, you will take an interest in the topic of our research, which examines how culture influences our attitudes about insects and spiders. To date, no one has systematically explored how US perspectives compare to other nations with regard to insects. This international study will help inform how educators around the world teach this subject.
By completing the questions, you give your consent to participate. If you have any questions about this IRB approved study (IRB202002790), you may contact Dr. Andrea Lucky (University of Florida Entomology and Nematology Department, Gainesville, Florida USA; alucky@ufl.edu). The survey can be accessed at this link: https://forms.gle/p4zBxCvZZAoREYZa8.

Gainesville Inspiring Connections Outdoors (ICO) Volunteers
Description: The ICO is a program created by the Sierra Club in the 1970s to promote outdoor experiences to youth from communities with limited access to connect and reconnect to the outdoors. Major cities in the USA have an ICO program. These ICO programs will help create the next generation of environmental justice leaders by increasing their exposure to outdoor recreation. This follows the Sierra Club motto or “Explore, Enjoy and Protect”.
Gainesville ICO: The Gainesville ICO was created in 2010 to promote outings with several groups of youth in East Gainesville. We have done hikes at Ring Park, and Prairie Creek Preserve, canoeing along the Santa Fe River, camping trips at Payne’s Prairie and O’Leno State Park. At this time, we are looking for volunteers who are interested in helping with these outings and possibly getting trained to be outings leaders.
