Counselor Ed Students Present at ALGBTIC Conference in Portland, Oregon
Shaun Anderson (master’s/Ed.S. student) and Christina McGrath Fair (doctoral student) presented at the Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues in Counseling (ALGBTIC) Conference in Portland, Oregon. Their presentation titled, “Counselor Self-Disclosure of Affectional Orientation to LGBQ Clients” focused on discussing their phenomenological study they are conducting to examine how LGBQ counselors-in-training are instructed about disclosing their affectional orientation to LGBQ clients. Their findings may influence formal training, clinical supervision, and clinical sites’ policies for disclosing affectional orientation to improve therapeutic relationships with LGBQ clients, with a focus on how affectional orientation of the counselor can affect counseling sessions.
