The ALTER-Math team aims to double math learning progress for middle school students by developing AI-powered teachable agents using large language models (LLMs) through UF’s HiPerGator 3.0.

UF’s CEEDAR Center secures additional $17.5 million for nationwide effort

With a decade of marked success, this UF-led effort has received an additional $17.5 million to support technical assistance efforts through 2027. The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs has already invested $46.5 million in the CEEDAR Center to improve teaching and school leadership for students with disabilities in states across the nation.

Bert Sharp, former COE dean, dies at 81

Former COE dean Bert Sharp, who led UF’s College of Education
through the turbulent and transformative 1970s, died Aug. 31 in Naples. He was
81.

Sharp was a professor in the Counselor Education department
in 1968, when he was catapulted into the dean’s position by the tragic death of
then-dean Kimball Wiles, who was killed in a car accident.

Professor Emeritus Arthur Lewis dies at 89

Professor Emeritus Arthur Lewis, a co-founder of the college’s ProTeach program and educational advisor to developing countries, died Sept. 10 in Jacksonville. He was 89.

Born in Colorado, Lewis began his teaching career in Denver schools. He soon shifted to an administrative track, and served as assistant superintendent for the Minneapolis, Minn. School system. He served as a profe…
