Florida certified teachers who want to add a reading endorsement to their credentials can take the following five courses to satisfy the state requirements.
These courses are offered both online and on campus. Completion of these courses does not automatically result in official Florida Reading Endorsement. Candidates must submit transcript on their own to the Florida Department of Education for course count content analysis in order to receive official Florida Reading Endorsement.
Area One and Two: Foundations of Reading Instruction and Application of Research-Based Instructional Practices (6 Hours)
Teachers will (a) develop substantive understanding of six components of reading as a process: comprehension, oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, and vocabulary; (b) scaffold student learning by applying the principles of research-based reading instruction and integrating the six components of reading; and (c) engage in the systematic problem solving process.

Area Three: Foundations of Assessment (3 Hours)
Teachers will understand how to select and administer appropriate assessments and analyze data to inform reading instruction to meet the needs of all students. Teachers will engage in the systematic problem solving process.
RED 6546: Diagnosis of Reading Difficulties (3)
Area Four: Foundations of Applications of Differentiated Instruction (3 Hours)
Teachers will have a broad knowledge of students from differing profiles in order to understand and apply research-based instructional practices by differentiating process, product and context. Teachers will engage in the systematic problem solving process.
RED 6548: Remediation of Reading Difficulties (3)
Area Five: Demonstration of Accomplishment (3 Hours)
Teachers will, through a culminating practicum, demonstrate knowledge of the components of reading, as well as assessments and data analysis, to implement a comprehensive research-based reading plan of instruction for all students. Teachers will engage in the systematic problem-solving process.
