Drs. Ana Puig, Shon Smith, and Jacqueline Swank have been elected to serve presidential terms of three out of the 20 national divisions of the American Counseling Association (ACA)
One faculty member and two students have been elected as officers of the Florida Association for Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Issues in Counseling (FALGBTIC).
Alena Prikhidko was named a recipient of the 2017 Alec Courtelis Award. The award is given annually to three outstanding international graduate students at the University of Florida. Mrs. Prikhidko is an international student from Russia. She has worked diligently throughout the doctoral program to develop as a scholar, teacher, supervisor, leader, and advocate.
Sunni Lutton received the 2017 Association for Creativity in Counseling Graduate Student Award. She was recognized for her integration of creativity within her work as a counselor, including the use of sandtray with clients, the facilitation of a group for clients entitled “Creative Expressions”, and other creative interventions. She has also lead staff development workshops on integrating creativity in counseling.
Alena Prikhidko, doctoral candidate, was named the 2017 Florida Counseling Association Member of the Year.
Dr. John Super was honored as the 2017 Pete Fisher Humanitarian award recipient. He received this award for his care and passion to others.
The University of Florida Counselor Education Program was named the 2017 Florida Counseling Association (FCA) Advocate of the Year at the FCA annual convention.
Alena Prikhidko received the UF College of Education Outstanding International Student Award. This award recognizes an international student that demonstrates exceptional scholarly research activity, outstanding participation in the department, and service to the University community.
